Having a new concrete driveway poured down the side of my house to my shop so I cant work in my shop for a week or so.

So I decided to (re)build this old mini Manx style dune-buggy shell that use to be on a carnival ride a long time ago. I wont bore you with the whole story but I started this project last week and Im about 90% done with mock up. Just gotta wait for the new throttle cable and a couple other little items to get here before I break it all back down for more sanding and painting.

I used a old chinese 4 wheeler that had a blown engine as my base. Took off the engine, and stripped everything off the frame.
I stretched the frame 9 1/2" and started cutting up the fiberglass body to fit the frame. Couldnt figure out why I couldnt lay a good weld, my plug on my welder melted..

Ordered and recieved a DuroMax 16hp engine and a cheap 1" torque converter kit. Of course the torque converter wouldnt bolt up so I had to make a spacer to get it to fit.7-31-15 002.jpg

Today I got the engine welded in, chain fitted, filled up the oil and put some gas in it and fired it up. Engine and clutch seem to be working fine. Gotta get a few more little things mocked up and clean up the wiring and break it down for paint next week.8-5-15 003.jpg

Nice truck too. I have a 66 GMC, you can see it in my profile. Is that a Buick Regal Grand National in there too? That kart is going to be slick.

Please tell me you didn't weld the engine onto anything :ack2:

Otherwise it looks great

I welded a frame up and bolted the engine to the frame. The engine does have some backward & foward movement to it due to that its mounted to the swing arm. I have an idea on how to limit its movement, just gotta find a time when its less than 100 degrees outside.

throttle linkage

Got a question- Im working on my throttle linkage, Im trying to use the thumb throttle from the 4 wheeler to the DuroMax 16hp engine. However Im not getting full throttle due to the short throw distance of the thumb throttle.

Is there any such linkage assembley out there that has some kind of articulation to it? I can make a trip to the homedepo and figure out something but I would like to see what (if anything) is for sale for this type of setup.
Thanks~

I can't really see much from your picture, but the idea would be to drill another hole in the arm that is closer to the pivot point. That should give you more swing with the same amount of cable travel.

Was having alot of forward and backward movement of my motor since I mounted it to the swing arm. I tack welded 2 LS7 valve springs together and I stuck this little 4" strut thingy I had laying around inside the springs and welded it to the cart. Now the engine movement is alot better.

I also finished the seat mount. I put in a union so I could take the body off if I needed to.

Also got the cart all tore apart and painted the frame, sanded the body, shot it with some left over car primer. Wet sanded the primer, shot some old left over blue base coat I had and then layed down a couple coats of clear on it. I didnt have as much clear as I would have liked to have but it came out ok. Sorry no pics, got dark on me but will post some up tomorrow...
