Hi again guys, I need some help with my drive ratio.
I have 15" tires, and am currently trying to run an 11 tooth clutch and a 30 tooth sprocket on the axle, but haven't yet, due to my clutch teeth being too worn down. Obviously, I'm going to need to fix this so I don't burn out my clutch.
I want the most speed I can get, without killing a clutch. So probably 6:1 right (I'm new to this)?
So, since I'm going to the kart shop to get a clutch in the morning, I might as well get that sprocket.

Basically, if I want the most speed, but without killing a clutch, what ratio should I go with on 15" tires?​

Also, I'm buying a new clutch, sprocket and chain. Therefore I can change the number of teeth on the clutch. Like if I could get a 5 tooth clutch (is there even such thing??), and mount that up, then I will not need to touch the sprocket on the axle. That would be ideal... unless that would slow me down?

You will not get a 5 tooth clutch. It is physically impossible. With 15" three I would go for 7:1 ratio

That's absolutely correct but, as landuse pointed out, you won't find a 5t clutch so, you'll need a larger axle sprocket.

You may get away with 6:1 but, if you can, you may want to pick up a second axle sprocket to give you closer to 7:1 as back up...

I'd go with 8:1 minimum.
Ideal would be 9:1.
With that size tire should be using a CVT anyway.

Yup, after a quick search I found there was no such thing as a 5t clutch. I didn't edit my post because I already shut off the computer for the night and didn't want to turn it on, because I needed to get some sleep.

So, here's where I'm at; I haven't gotten any parts yet. The reason being is that the axle is extremely hard to get off, and once I do the sprocket is heat shrunk. This means that it is heat up and put into place then cooled, and when it's cooled it will stay there until it's hot enough again. I would make the assumption that you guys know that, but I'm saying it just in case.
Now, even if I was to do that, I have this problem. From a local kart shop called "Bones Kart Shop" (By the way, I would highly recommend them- very friendly and helpful) I have this buildup
My clutch teeth are shot so I need a new clutch-$40
A 72 tooth sprocket $31
A lengthened chain $10.
So there's $81.
At this point, Bones sells a jack shaft for $40.
So I'm buying the jackshaft and the clutch and that's it. Thanks to all for the help.

Back! Basically the jack shift kit they had at Bones Kart Shop was 3/4 when I needed 5/8 and the teeth were 14 and 10. I knew they were way bigger stock, but I wasn't sure. The lady there looked it up and it was 29 and 10 or 39 and 10 or something-I don't know. Anyway, they're very good with karts there, and they have their people. So their going to figure out if they can get the whole jack shaft with the bearings and all for me, along with new teeth for the clutch because it was confirmed that my clutch is good but just needs some new teeth. It's a 3 piece clutch where you can just replace the sprocket part of the clutch, so that's what I'm doing. Anyway, I think they have fair prices and are good people there so I trust them.
The sad thing is that they are open tomorrow and then closed until Monday next week. Since they're connected to a go kart race track, they might leave the parts down at the track for me when they come in, and they might be able to ship them to my house. Worst case I might have to wait until Monday next week, but by Monday night my kart will be stock and perfect, because I'll have all the right parts.



It was a full jack shaft kit with teeth, bearings, mounting plates, and the jack shaft itself for only $41. That sounds cheap to me but it doesn't matter because it wont work for me.


I have included a picture I found online of what it should look like stock. Interesting, the clutch is actually kind of on backwards, didn't realize that until now. I got this kart missing the whole jack shaft completely.

Ok so you have a 10 tooth clutch, and a 30 (?) tooth axle sprocket. To get to 7.2:1 with what you have, you need a 24 and 10 tooth sprockets to go on that shaft. The clutch will drive the 24 tooth sprocket. It, in turn, will turn the 10 tooth sprocket. The 10 tooth sprocket turns the 30 tooth sprocket.

My kart has 15 inch tires and runs 7.2:1 gearing. It does 35mph on flat ground with an ungoverned Predator. It has plenty of go, and plenty of speed.

I think I'll just go with the stock gearing. Thanks for the help though.
It's probably easiest and if i want I can change it later...

I've spent the past 1&1/2 hours looking for "American challenger fox manual " and the only thing that I find is "American challenger " no fox...... The model number is 435b-19..... They sell all the parts you needed on the 2 pages that I found to list the parts by number. I think it came out to $40ish..... So, hope you dont have to wait too long to get back on the road.

Lol yeah. Sorry about that guys. I basically was trying to do a jack shaft delete this whole time because I didn't have one... I finally just gave up and said I'm going to do it right. I was trying to change the title to something less urgent, but I don't think that's an option...

Back again! Basically I got every single piece I need, except the big jack shaft sprocket. For some reason no one has a 35 tooth jack shaft stock, and I'm trying to keep it stock. Problem is, no one has a 35 tooth jack shaft sprocket!
Any idea on where to get one or a sprocket I can use?

It's 10 tooth clutch, to 12 tooth on jack shaft which is one chain, and 35 tooth on jack shaft to I think (if I counted right) 30 tooth on the sprocket which is the second chain.

I haven't done the math, but I'm sorry if I offended anyone or anything like that. I didn't mean to ignore your advice I just didn't know and got whatever the kart shop said was stock. I would imagine it's extremely hard to deal with this thread, because I have a new setup each day. Thanks for trying to help when this is so confusing for me. And that's a shout out to everyone here, not just firemanjim, but firemanjim especially for sticking with me on this all along.
