so i got a project (as we all do) and my power plant is a 4 HP 1" PTO w/ a 1/4 keyway snow blower motor. when I looked up the price of clutches that would fit I was astonished! is there a less expensive venue to buy clutches from like an under ground club that I don't know about (first rule about clutch club is you don't talk about clutch club, second rule of clutch club is...) or would it be better to go to a more common size power plant with a 3/4" PTO?

That's just wierd...

One option is to have the crank turned down & cut a new keyway but, by the time you pay for that, you could probably go a buy a 212cc Predator & a 3/4" clutch to fit

i agree with ML-TOYS. get a 3/4 wrench and see it it fit on the shaft with a snug fit if not get a 5/8 wrench and do the same thing if that ant it thin it is more thin likely a 1'' shaft

If it were mine, the engine would go on CL and I'd get a 5-6.5hp with a 3/4 shaft. That clutch would be cheap.

verdict is it's a 1" crank, I used the wrench technique suggested. Looks like i'll be searching for another power plant that has a larger supporting market for parts.

thanks guys

yeah a 1" wrench over the shaft... I started at 3/4" and worked my way up till one of the wrenches slipped snuggly over the PTO. i'm guessing (and again i'm new to small motors) that since it was originally meant for a track drive not a tire snow blower it needed the torque tolerances. thoughts on that theory?

regardless I have 2 motors to trade. a 3.5 HP B/S vert shaft with the oil slinger modded to make it run horizontal and the other 4 HP motor with the 1" hort shaft. any wanna trade :)

Putting that thought on pause & jumping ahead a step or six, what are your thoughts on gearing the tracks (work with me, you'll be interested in where I'm going)

id say save the motor for a progect that you dont need a clutch on the engine. like something with belt drive or one where you can run the clutch on the jackshaft.

Ok let's think for min, if the OP gets a sprocket that fits the crank, then a jackshaft that is 3/4" with a regular cent clutch of his choice, as part of the final drive.
He will have essentially an "open primary" like a Harley.
No need to get a big 1" clutch, he will just have to adjust his ratio with having a larger tooth count of the smallest sprocket he can find for 1".
Yeh...neh????

This is what i am planning on doing with my 1 1/8 diameter shaft on an 11 hp i have.
