Hey guys. Just thought I'd post some pics of my progress. For those of you that don't know, I'm taking a Kawasaki Ninja 600cc engine and installing it on a 3203 Yerf Dog frame. I've taken the front suspension from a 400ex and putting that in replace of the single a-arm. It will have a foot pedal clutch, throttle and rear brake. I am putting the front brakes and the shifter on a vertical mounted lever/handle on the right side of the steering wheel. I think the rear axle will be the weak link. If it breaks then I will replace it. Tell me what yall think of it so far.

I only see one MAJOR flaw, and I may be jumping the gun, with your rear set up..... Man , with the power and torque you're gonna throw at your axle, you REALLY NEED to add a bearing set on each side of the sprocket. I would use quality pillow block bearings with a working load of around 9000 lbs..... Thats not read as HIGH $$$either. They can be had for about $45-50 for a pair. Grainger.com lists the working and max load of their bearings. Thats where i buy mine....
Kart is gonna be pretty slick when you're done. Look forward to progress reports....

Thanks firemanjim. I bought the bearings and axle before I started reading on here about this weak link. I will look into the pillow block bearings.

Did ya'll notice how I had the sprocket and disc brake made? I took the old sprocket, cut off the teeth, drilled holes in it then bolted the ninja sprocket to it. I welded a split collar on one end of it and drilled and tapped holes for 3 more set screws on the other side. I did the disc brake similar. I set them both up with a dial indicator. They're both about .010 out of round. (I should get a better pic of them for critique.) I'm just worried about them possibly slipping on the shaft.

Here is the link to better see the pictures:

Gives me chills to think I'd be moving that fast on this thing! Well done man, its going to be a MONSTER! Keep us updated, I want to see some video from the cockpit in motion when its completed!!!
:auto:

P.S. Do you intend on selling it after having some fun on it? I would be interested in buying it and keeping it as a collector.

Thank you so much Role for saying this. This is my first go kart build or anything like this. I always try to do a good job at whatever I work on. I can't wait to get it on the road. It IS going to be wicked! I love making things faster. I love speed, hence the name.

A friend of mine did ask me if I wanted to sell it. I don't want to because I think me and my fiancé are going to love it. But I will keep you in mind. Thank you again.

I think its going to be awesome. I'm taking my silver fox in a similar direction. My suspension is welded up, and i have steering parts on the way. Trying to keep a look out for a wrecked 4 Wheeler for the power plant. I really don't want more than 400cc. This being my first time doing anything like this, I'm pretty exited to get it done.

Got a quick question for you guys. I don't know which way to go for my steering. Its either rack and pinion or how it was when I got it. Please tell me which would be best for my build. thank you

It's hard to tell coz there's no clear, straight on pics of the front but, let me just say this:

Optimally, you want the tierods to pivot at the same point as the A arms, (if you get what I mean). If you use a standard, simple setup, you may end up with bump steer, meaning, as the wheels move up & down through the suspension travel, the length of the tierods will be different to the A arms, causing the steering angle to change. (have a look at this if you don't quite get what I mean)
