Okay so when I made my spindles I threaded one a little too far which is okay, the nut goes on tightened up and the wheel spins freely.
With the other side however the nut didn't make it down the the hub so there was sideways movement.

Solution put in some spacers, I cut down some old washers but when I tighten up the but the wheel hardly turns.

I don't want anything to touch the outer race or orange part right?
Could someone please point me in the right direction :)

I have tried to attach photos not sure how well they will work.

That is a puzzling question

Maybe the washers are touching the seal ( orange bit)
What if u back the nut off?
I assume the wheel has sideways movement then ?

Have u tried swapping the hubs over to eliminate the bearings as a factor

When u remove the hubs just turn the inner race to make sure it's all good

Yeah I thought the washers were touching but I have looked closely all the way around and I can't see anything.
If I back the night off it spins freely but there is slight sideways movement. As far as I know sideways movement isn't good haha

Yeah I took them off and spun them on a spare price of steel and they both feel the same.

If I tighten it up and use it, it is going to damage the bearings right?

It may damage them just running it
Take the nut off and colour the seal in with a whiteboard marker
Reinstall the washers and nut then spin the when a few times
If any marker is gone then that's where it's rubbing

It depends what u mean by hard to turn

Actually spin the inner race with your fingers
Just because u spun it on a shaft doesn't mean the bearings are good it just means the inner race can spin on the shaft and the bear can stay locked

All bearings have a little drag
If they have absolutly no drag then that is also bad

If no one else can come up with an idea then post a vid

Bearings are brand new japanese bearings (unless she changed them) so, they shouldn't be a problem.

How far are you backing it off? When it comes to bearing load, 1/8 of a turn can be the difference between way too loose & way too tight.

With the nut backed off, spin the hub & slowly tighten the nut until you notice the hub start to slow down or "grab". It should then be perfect; not too tight & no side movement

If you listen very closely, you can even hear when it hits the "sweet spot"

Thanks guys :) yeah I didn't think anything was wrong with the bearings. Just wasn't sure on tightening up the nuts. I did what you said and they both spin at the same speed.

Another question though, today I got it out and rolled it down my drive way as soon as I turn the steering wheel it stops. Am I worrying about nothing? Is it just the new tires and my concrete?

U hope to be mounting the engine tomorrow and will throw some more pics up.

ok it has been way to long since i have worked on the kart, which is due to looking for jobs and trying to make some money haha.

But I'm back and happy to say that i hope to have the kart powering down my street this weekend.

All that's left to do is complete the engine mount bracing, new tie rods and some small details like up the brakes :p

So here is a photo of the engine mount and i hope to have a better update tomorrow :)

As the commentary suggested, the engine may be a bit tired but, judging by the speed:rpm ratio, I'd say it's geared too high... Looks like you're into jackshaft territory
