****ing annoying C clip

i got a baja warrior today, but it creeped forward alot, so i thought it was the bushing.

*took apart clutch*

nope. the spring is worn out. the clutch shoes hang out. overheated?

also i forgot to mention this is a used bike.

i ran into a C clip that held a cover on over the shoes. IT aint coming out. no matter what i try. every other C clip has been not this hard to take out.

suggestions?

Do you have cir-clip pilers? The right ones, for taking out external clips not internal?

If it is just stuck, get a hammer and a punch and just tap it until it will rotate around, within the retaining slot.

u can get ones that do internal and external clips

If you dont have $$$ for C-clip pliers, you can sometimes just use a pair of needle nose pliers instead, and then you'd just pull the handles apart instead of squeezing for your snap-ring. Although you might have to carefully sharpen just the very tips of your needle nose pliers if they're too large to fit.

I've got 2 huge Snap On roll away tool boxes crammed full of tools from when I used to be an automotive mechanic, and I still have to think out of the box and improvise tools sometimes too man

I don't think they have Kinchrome tools over there, not sure though.

free wouuld be nice, lol, im in no rush, ill just look for somethig cheap. all i ever need it for really is clutches.

Another way i have done it is get two small flathead screwdrivers and put them in the holes and pull apart.

Thats what i always did on the other ones. Wont work on this last one since its super thick and hard to get to.

Ill try the needle nose pliers. If that doesnt work ill wait until i get some cash to buy one.

I totally disagree, to day at work I would have used cir-clip pilers at least 6-7 times. These are Stahlwille ones close to over 30 years old.

Cheap stuff will just snap the tips off and be absolutely useless.

all i ever need it for really is clutches.

they are a pretty common method of retaining things, i would think differently...

rusty is right though, i had a pair break on me, they also tend to bend the tips and go blunt, as a matter of fact i should probabley get a good set myself...

They come in handy for lots of stuff, like picking the stones out of tyres, hooking that bolt you dropped behind the exhaust manifold thats jammed behind the starter motor, scratching a cut mark in a bit of steel, taking circlips off...

iv never managed to damage a pair but fair enough if u are conastanty useing then good quality is needed but for the once a month use anything will do

I got an internal/external pair of snap ring pliers at HF for like $7. They came with a 0*, 2 45*, and a 90* head. I used them to get the snap ring on the driven of my TC. I went to get them at HD, but they were like $27 and I don't use them much. HF is just fine for the few uses I'll have for them.

thanks everyone, good info.

so, i was thinking, once i get that clip off, i have to deal with the clutch spring. it is stretched out, i know that because all the shoes sort of hang out farther and not tight against the center.

can i shorten the spring a few coils, or buy one for higher RPM?

when it was on my baja warrior, the whole bike creeped forward so much that it basically was moving when the engine was on, at all times.
