Hey I have a 6.5 hp Clone. I have removed the governor and everything else is stock.. I am thinking about lightening my flywheel, I am wondering should i do this? I know it will make it lighter and rev a little higher but i am wondering is it worth doing? As in speed and power wise

i dont know if the revs will rise
but the torque will drop
if u want more revs then remove the governer this also gives u a little bit more oonf

Don't even dare to try to lighten your stock flywheel please.

If you mess up and grind the wrong place it could weaken it and the flywheel could explode.

If you choose to grind it down, you will have to make sure that it remains balanced.

And you will want to build a scatter sheild around your flywheel of about 1/4 steel or bigger just in case it explodes.

If i were you i would buy a billet light weight flywheel and go ahead and buy a billet connecting rod since you pulled the governer.

But with a light weight flywheel it will allow your motor to turn faster without a lot of harmonics (meaning that with the stock flywheel is heavy and it shakes about like a tire out of balance on a car, but with a lightend flywheel most of that will be canceled out) and it will allow it to rev a tid bit faster too.

Don't harmonic means how much it shakes?

So if you have more harmonics won't it shake more?

And less harmonics, the less it shakes.

Or do i have it backward or messed up really bad? cause i am not to familier with that big word.

I just know how a harmonic balancer on a truck works and know how they do when the rubber o ring breaks out.

I do know that with a little flywheel, it wheel shake less at faster speeds and balance out better.

harmonics is a type of vibration i think its a sound vibration thats hard on the ears

Alright, I wont mess with the stock flywheel..
I might by a billet one if i do decide to do something with the flywheel.

But if i do get a billet one will it lower my torque?

a unmodded flywheel will not explode but if you go and grind half of it away and turn it over the intended rpm....

It will be like a ticking bomb

But you can turn a stock unmodded flywheel over rpm all you want and it probably wouldn't hurt anything other than maybe a flywheel key a time and again.

The torque will actually slightly increase as the engine does not need to accelerate the mass of the flywheel.

The only reason in a car there is an apparent torque loss is because there is not as much stored energy in the flywheel, which makes it a bit more difficult to take off. Once you're off you should have more slightly more torque over the whole rev range.

Yeah thats what i thought. I lighten my flywheel on my Pocketbiket. But i think i am just going to leave it how it is :)

I am sure that a lighter flywheel exits. Probably on a wood chipper that utilizes a clone for power.
The trick is to find said equipment and then determine if the flywheel is actually lighter.

you may be able to take the fly wheel of the hf 5.5hp vert shaft, but that may be too light, what about buying a billet one??
