I’m having problems getting the shifter to work right. When it’s sitting, not running, it seems to shift ok. When it’s running it will shift into drive or reverse, but it won’t come out of it. I have replaced the cables. When I got it I had to replace the reversing shaft and gear shifting assembly. I didn’t replace the shift selector so do you think it needs a new part or is it something I screwed up putting it together ?

Does this thing have a manual clutch? I don't see one on the Go Kart Supply website. Or do you just select F/R and go?

This is just F/N/R, should be simple, but not for my pea-brain! lol

As for the idle part I’m not sure, I have to say it doesn’t run the smoothest but there have been times after running it the idle wasn’t bad but still the no shift problem

Try shifting to neutral just before the kart stops moving. If it shifts either the idle is to high, CVT engagement speed too low or cables not adjusted properly?
