Default Yard kart/backyard dirt oval build

First post here. Been lurking for a minute for all kinds of great info and tech on my first kart build. Found some really great insight!

Wanted to share my current build and the story behind it. I grew up racing flat track/tt quads. So when my brother-in-law and a bunch of his veteran circle track friends got together and formed a yard kart league, I had to jump in! At first, I thought it was going to be pretty much an “open/modified” run whatcha brung situation, but that quickly changed once they had seen what I was building. I was promptly told that my kart was out of tech specs for what they would allow to run on the short 1/10 mile oval. Regardless, I continued to build the kart how I wanted.

So what is it that I’ve built? I found what I believe to be is a 2012 Charger Magnum chassis on the good ol’ FB marketplace for what was a pretty reasonable price for a not so strong running predator 212 stage 2 kart with a spare clone, starter box, oil, weird wheel/tire setup and some random tire prep. I was set to start my build!

I tore the kart down to the frame, prepped for paint, made a lengthy parts list and went at it.

As it sits now, here’s the set up:

It’s a ripper! I’ve been able to run several laps on the original Burris slicks set up the kart came with. I just installed the new wheel/tire package this week and am looking forward to running some hot laps and sitting on the side lines for next weekends races! Ha!

Any thoughts, comments or questions on the kart and set up are welcome!

Thx for the welcome guys!

As for the top speed, no clue. Only run it on the short 6.0 hear ratio set up for the 1/10th oval and I’m not even seeing the top of rpm range on it.

Maybe I’ll throw some old slicks on and a shorter gear to see what she can do some day.
