Could it be 1/4-20?

That's the size on a 5 HP Briggs and a 4 HP Tecumseh I just checked (flatheads).

If you can after center punching the bolt, use a left hand drill bit, it may just unscrew itself

If it is 1/4-20, a .201 is tap drill size, so use a .1875 (3/16) drill bit so you don't mess up threads.

It was 1/4-20. I was able to chase the RH hole and get the muffler mounted. The LH one; I punched and drilled it out and tried the easy-out with blaster but it was seized too tight. I sprayed some additional blaster on it and tried again; no luck as of yet.

I got the motor to start and run now with the muffler on with a single bolt; but it dies under loading again so I'm guessing another carb cleaning is in my near future. Seems like I have to take the thing apart and clean the jets every 2-3 hours of use. Seems excessive to me?
