it may be possible the piston rings are generally incorrect or just misaligned.

they should be offset by 120 each and none aligned with the piston pin...

then you can replace some locking collars with snaprings.
that's quite common for the outside of the wheel for example...

modern day engines usually don't care about 5-10% of ethanol, most are even happy with up to 20%..
