Yerf Dog 340gx - To a Clutch problem

I Rebuilt a Yerf dog 3202model. It is higher and a lot heavier. I mounted a honda Gx340 engine on the bakc from a Generator with a tapered shaft. I rebuild the shaft with a connector to have a 1" Straight Shaft on it.

I use it for going up big hills and trailing.

1. Steep Sand Hills and Mudding Water
2. Honda Gx340 Old generator Engine with a 1" conveted shaft.
3. I am hoping for atleast 40 MPH
4. I have a 60 tooth Sprocket on the Axle now.

I have a 14 Tooth extreme duty centrifugal clutch on there now from Northern tool. It spins out and smokes and to get the cart going I have to push it first then it slowly picks up speed. I will replace the clutch completly I just need to know what I need to get whats best for this terrian and will work for my cart. It trys to pick up speed later on as its picking up speed it starts clunking and lots of yanking the whole cart just roughly yanks and lots of locking up noises in the black from the clutch.
Please Help me out Ive been trying to find whats best for me For a while now! Please and thankyou. -Mike

Here's the problem: If you want to climb hills you need a gear ratio around 7:1 or 8:1. This ratio probably won't get you 40mph. For the best chance at that, you need to gear it around 6:1. Currently you have 4.2:1. What you need is a 10 or 12t clutch with no less than 72t axle sprocket

If you want torque and that sort of top speed you'll need a torque converter, series 40 comet.

Like Fabroman says, your gearing is waaaaay to high. That gearing would generally be too high for any type of kart, no matter what terain it rides on. A high ratio like you have will cause your clutch to slip and burn up (which it is doing), as well as give you zero torque (which is what you have now. Theoretically you get a higher speed, but you will never get there. Your rear tyres are also waay too large for that gear ratio.

Do what fabroman says and get a 10T clutch as well as a 72T rear sprocket. This will definately help, but your speed will be reduced. Seeing that you are doing offroad, you don't need the speed anyway

First prize would be to get a Comet 40 Series TC like Blaz has advised. He works at a kart shop, so he knows what he is talking about

-Jackshaft kit I need the harnesses everything

-Link to the Comet 40 TC so i can buy that ( 1" borrow)

-The belt I need for it.

I am going to keep the 60 tooth sproket on the axle.

What would be best for my application: (Mudding, Off road, Steep hills high inclines...)
Option 1:

8 tooth (eng. shaft)
60 (axle) (7.5:1) <-- gear ratio

Option 2:
10 tooth (eng. shaft)
60 (axle) (6:1) <-- gear ratio

IMo for $100 less get a 500 series

Please note, the driven is for a 7/8" shaft. You have 2 options-
Use a 7/8" shaft which is more money and harder to find sprockets for, or use a 3/4" shaft which is fairly standard, and bearings and sprockets are easy to find. Then make up a spacer for the driven that is 3/4" I/D and 7/8" O/D with a 3/16" slot. Then get a piece of keystock 1/4" x 3/16". Hope this makes sense!

I think the 500 series allows for a lower torque ratio than the 40 series so better hill climbing.

Search BMIkarts.com, mfgsupply.com, gokartsupply.com, gokartgalaxy.com and shakyparts.com for jackshafts and sprockets. All very reasonable, BMI especially.

How big are your rear tires?

We really need to know what size your rear tires are. They look to be about 15", if they are ... I'm thinking that you SHOULD be able to get away with a 40 series converter with a 10t and keep your 60t axle sprocket.

20x8x8 should be around 20" tall but i see you wrote height 15 ( the only tires we are concerned with are the REAR tires)

tire sizes usually go height x width x rim diameter..........

if they are 16" tall or less ....you will be fine. if they are actually 18-20+ inches tall...you may want to get a 72t axle sprocket.

it really does look like you have 15-16" tall tires............if so.....10t driven 60t axle
would ( just my personal opinion here) be perfect.
