Hello all,

Ive a yamaha li-ion 2013 model power unit on my wheelchair.

I have a problem, its too slow,i would like to double the speed but leave the other options the same.I just don't have enough speed to make the lights so i end up baking in the sun at lights.

Does anybody have any professional advice/help for me in this area? I can get more photos of the wiring.

The black toggle is the speed controller......

The who to the where now?

Yes, my professional advice:
Hands off grashopper!
This not for young Padawans to play with...

and now slightly more serious:
altering the controller is possible but extremely difficult,
you need to find the schematics and beef it up, which will be impossible for the untrained individual.

Also: stepping up the controller doesn't help ANYTHING, not if you do not upgrade the motor at the same time..
and even that will not help much in the end.. since most motors of the same size run at a similar rpm no matter how much power they got..
so you'd need to alter the gearbox as well to gain more speed and not just torque..

In the end.. you'd better start from scratch, that way you can choose where to place the motor and controller and how to set up the gear ratio you'd need.
without ruining a perfectly working unit.
(in short: find a non-working one and mod that.. not yours!)

you can mail it to whom you want.. serious technicians will NOT mod it,
and the rest will ask for big bucks and just insert a bigger one into the case you mailed.

Forget it!

hub motors... that's a shame :(
those are internally geared (of course) very few are slow turning ungeared,
but the problem remains...
you need to replace both wheels completely

even worse: think the unit you took a picture off although called "speedcontroller" is NOT the actual motor controller, just a variable throttle for the two individual controllers that are sandwiched in the wheel hubs...

To say for sure I'd need the wiring schematics of that thing...

Anyways; since hubmotors like that will cost a fortune (w or w/o controller almost doesn't make a difference anymore)
I think the initial advice (i.e. start from scratch) is even more valid than before.

Allow me to think about your problem for a little while, maybe I can think of a feasible way to get you a bit more speed ;)

How much can you or are you willing to spend on that?
And where are you from? (maybe I can find some sources too)
