my kart has srub brakes right now. This winter i plan to redo my entire kart and upgrade were needed. one of my first concerns with adding more power is that i know those scrub brakes arent gonna do much. they do ok now but take along time to slow form 22mph and worse under wet conditions. i want to upgrade to a disk or drum set up. my question is on my single drive axle kart which side should i put the brake on, the drive wheel or the free wheel? both would be nice but to expensive and over kill for my project. sorry i cant post any pics i only get on the net at work. but if any one has further question ill try to clear them up. thanks

what kind of power we talkin? i would suggest some nice high quality hydraulic disc brakes. easy to install and insted of routing a brake line its just hose to the brakes. they can be mounted either side i think.

i have a gx200 honda 6.5hp i want to do a few things nothing crazy just like a bored carb, air intake, lightend flywheel(professionaly done) and a few other tid bits. hydraulic disc brakes would be nice but 2 expensive for my project. my question is which side of my axle should i install the brake. drive wheel or non-drive wheel side? i guess it wouldnt matter but i was wondering if any one has tryed both side or maybe there experience with a similar setup.

i have a 6.5 on my kart, one wheel drive and i have a single drum brake on the non-drive wheel. works just fine.

ohh and btw, i have a 1/4.1 reduction so i get up to a rather high speed and the single drum brake works just fine.
