Torque converters are so much more useful than a 2 speed clutch, but I havent seen one before. What is next? 10 speed DCT? :auto:

but it's a SHIFTING clutch, not a two speed automatic clutch.. which is kindof nice actually...
the only thing that concerns me really is how it works..

I mean the smaller drum not only moves by .25" or more which messes with chain alignment..
(especially on short chains that's not good)
it also engages with the larger drum (or rather the sidewall of the clutch shoes)
very little contacting surface, and that means excessive wear.
and it's not exactly positive engagement either, it relies solely on the force applied through the shifting cable...
which opens another can of worms (heat creation instead of power transmission thanks to "feathering it")

I think I know why this thing is no longer being made ;)

I swear my Comet 30 acts like a two speed clutch!! After I get going and hit about 20 mph , it feels and sounds like it shifts into a second gear and then I'm off to the races!!

Except the fact that the comet is better built, doesnt kill chains, and actually connects to the wheels insteads of smoking.

Did you buy it?

I didn't buy it. I do think it's cool, but not cool enough for that kind of dough.

funny how he tried selling that thing for 275 on ebay (in march) w/o success obviously
and re-lists that same thing for 345 ever since..

That's the 2 speed automatic transmission I use on my sears roper..... First gear has enough torque to ride a wheelie. Second gear pushes me to about 60 mph.... Utilizes a one way bearing..... Much simpler, and effective..... And you can get an mount made for it by one of our members.... He made mine, and it looks NOS....

The way a 30 series is supposed to work it that it starts to shift at a certain RPM. So you stay in low gear from (let's say) 2200 to 3500 RPM. Then at (let's say) 3500 RPM, the TC starts to shift. The engine speed should stay around 3500 RPM while the TC shifts out to Overdrive. Once the TC has shifted, then you should start gaining RPM again - if the engine has enough power and the gearing allows it. If you tune the TC to start to shift at peak HP, you can stay near the RPM where your engine is making peak HP for the majority of your driving time.
