I just bought a used Manco Red Fox go cart. It has a 5hp Tecumseh motor. When I start the motor the go cart wants to creep foward. When I would drive it ,the torque converter would lock up and stall when I braked. The TC was cleaned and lubed and now the TC does not lock up but it still creeps when at idle.
I noticed that the drive pulley is perfectly straight(vertical) and the driven pulley is lined up with the drive but driven pulley is at a slight angle. I have read that both pulleys are suppose to be perfectly vertical. Since my drived is at an noticable angle, could this be whats causing the creeping? A friend lubed the clutch with white litheum grease and sprayed the springs with wd40. I read egat thats a no no. If I was to relube it with the proper lube would that maybe fix the problem? I have the idle set low so that should not be causing the problem. thanks for the replies inadvance.

Clean your drive clutch again and use wire brushes, do not use any wet lube. On the drive clutch check your jackshaft, I'm thinking you may have broken a bearing.

Thanks, I will check the jackshaft. Do you think that could be my problem?

I checked the bearing and it is not broke. Anything else that could cause the pulley to be slanted like that?

The whole motor mount plate could be bent, the jackshaft itself could be bent, the drive clutch could be bent(check for wobble).

There is no wobble in the pulley. The belt has no signs of wear. If the slant in the pulley was a problem, would'nt the belt show some uneven wear or something like that???

I took the go cart to a friend in the neighborhood who works on go carts, lawn mowers, etc. He took the drive apart and found that one of the springs is missing, he says thats my problem. I ordered a set of springs from willardssmallengines.com (only place I could find one) In the pic it showed just the springs without the tips on the ends of the springs. Do the springs come with the tips? And if they don't that leaves me with a missing tip. I'm just trying to make this go cart right. I got totally ripped off on this cart. If I only knew a week ago what I know now about go carts:mad2: Thanks for the help.
