hay guys ...I'm trying to figure out if I should try to remove the gov. form the motor that I'll be getting ( harber freight 2.5 ) or should I just leave it as is, do you think that there would be much differance considering its 2.5

Also ...I have seen in some manuals for motors that the oil should be 10w 30 .. but I have been told that I should use a thick oil like 5w 20

Use 10w30 and get the 6.5 so you can gear it higher and not have to worry about the gov being removed to get more power

its going to be used on a new design, well its not new its the design that I have been working on. it is going to have to fit into a spot the will be shared with a jackshaft but the kicker is that it will have to be small enough to be tilted and rotate when the kart is folded up..

Hi flow air filter and exhaust. Rejet or drill out the jet for increased flow. Might give you an extra horse. If you take out the gov, you will need stiffer springs to prevent valve float and possibly a billet rod. It's all up to how much you wanna spend.

As to the oil...the manual that came with my old motor...called for 30w above 40 degrees and 5w30 or 10w30 below 40 degrees.

Also a big warning to check oil more often when using 5w or 10w30...because the motor is air cooled...which tends to burn more oil then liquided cooled motors as it runs hotter.

Second warning that using 30w below 40 degrees may damage the motor when cold and may be hard to start.

Just mentioning what the manual says...personally I run 10w30 synthetic...

fully synthetic is def the way to go with these little motors. sounds like 10w-30 will be just fine.

I'd run 5W20 full Syn in a motor like that, since they aren't pressure lubed, a slippery, light weight oil works better. ;)

But if I were designing something to be light, portable and powerful, it would definitely be two stroke. Some of those little 49~50cc pocket bike or go-ped motors make 4 to 6 hp or more. They do need an expansion chamber to make that much power though.
Even a hopped up weedeater motor can make 3 hp or more, ;), got a hopped up Homelite motor in a 55" long offshore style RC boat that does high 30s on the water (GPS).
I bought a brand new Homelite string trimmer ($59 at Home Depot), took it apart, modded the motor to be water cooled, and mounted it in my boat.
