With revision 978C complete, the "franken buggy" complete and ready ahead of the deadline and nothing really pressing going on, l began thinkin. Usually thats not good. So looking around l found this:
IMG_4850.jpeg

this thing came to an abrupt stop, and it looks like it was not a happy ending. IMG_4718.jpeg
while mostly intact there have been a few parts robbed. The missing parts are of no interest to me anyway.
what i wanted is this:

And this stuff is in the corner.

so there has been this (half azz) plan ratteling around between my ears for a while now.
This may not be a "go kart", but more of a "crosskart. Maybe not the scope of this forum, but this will 95% DIY. I intend to make as many part as possible. Cuz thats the fun of it.
So stay tuned for the thrills and chills, mistakes and generally a disorganised cluster.
this will be a long term project, don't expect thing to happeb fast.

So, the engine doesn,'t run due to honked up wiring.
l spent the afternoon sorting wire out.
IMG_4857.jpeg

sortingwiring wiring is so much fun, but when the wire colors don't match what the diagram sez, it become more challenging.
I can turn it over by jumping the starter relay. I need to get a few things hked up so l can do compression test.

Any good project needs a name so while explaining what l had planned to my dear wife she maned it real quick, l went somethin like this “ WTF is wrong with you? Yer a stoopid old man out there in that stoopid shop all day….
l could tell she was excited cuz it wenton for 5 min.
way too long. So l shortened it to project stoopid!

I thought maybe you were going to try to ride it without handle bars. Tell the poor women ( your loving wife) that the kart will be many times safer than a motorcycle without handle bars, or even with them. Sell the safety aspect of the project.

Hey T,
The "suspense" is buildin' up already

Wire colors hardly ever match
...always best ta "trace" 'em down (just ta be sure) ;)

Q:
That bike seems ta be of the shaft drive variation
...what's your plan for connectin' it to a go kart/cross kart type of a rear axle?

Yeah, wiring never seems to follow the drawimgs, but it would be nice to have maybe a small hint....

was waitin for someone to notice the shaft drive.
Yeah, l have a "rough idea" of what l wanna do.
Its just another R&P after all....
Stay tuned for "proof of concept"). After compression test.

I got off my lazy boy and made some progress on the spagetti pile.
IMG_4861.jpeg

trying to cut this heap down to only the necessary stuff. I don't need a kickstand switch, turn signals, headlights etc. all l want is ignition, alternator, starter and instruments. I reduced the pile to this.

IMG_4849.jpeg

there is more to come out once l get the instrument panel sorted out.
then that happened also.
A small victory!
IMG_4860.jpeg

the instruments work!

Looks like the ignition box thingy or as in Kawasaki speak the ignitor might be bad.
@ $WTF! for a new one, l may looking for an aftermaket ignition system.
According to the manual it requires a special secret gizmo to test it accuratly.
The dealer has that gizmo. So l already know "its bad".
i do know there is nothing happening at the coil, in or out.

I've been looking at a different project, that I think is the epitome of classic Hackmanship. I've been wanting to build this for years. It keeps rising to the surface every now and then, but alas, I'm too old and tired. However I think one of the young'ns here should take this on.
My consultation services would be free to anyone willing. The only contractual obligation would be I get to drive it at least once.

While hobnobing with one of my fellow geezers, a retired stage rally driver, the subject of steering came up and well, short version; I was gifted a Subaru steering rack. But wait, l exclaimed! I don't have a PS pump! No problem, the gifter says, just fill it with oil and plug the in/outlet
I can turn the input shaft by hand, so I guess I'll give it a try.
Anyone had any experience with any such madness?
I don't doubt for a second what he said. Looks like it should work, should be an easy hack-fest installing it.IMG_4871.jpeg

That ought to steer a lot better than those invisible forks on the bike. Probably strong enough to hold up to the horsepower you're going to be pushing it with.
