ok picked this up today. Got it for $500 not sure if its a good deal or not.

These are old pics from the winter I didn't take any of my own yet. Need to fix up a few things on it but I got it running and got it to move, I can't find a reverse gear? & not sure how to check the oil? I no nothing about old beetles. It from a 1969 volkswagon drivetrain, has a 1200 cc volkswagon motor, 4 speed standard tranny.

Ahh... Old VW reverse. Lessee... From Neutral (to the left, between first and second), pull the stick left, and backwards (towards back of vehicle) If memory serves, there's a trick. I think you have to press the stick straight down, as if you were attempting to plunge it into the floorboard, before you can move it far enough left to hit reverse. Something like that, anyway. Play with it, let me know how it goes.

Ooooo I like the old push-pull tranny buddy. Great find for $500. This thing looks sweet, but if you are used to driving standard stick, you are gonna be like totally confused every time you go to put it in reverse until you get use to it.

Thanks got it to work, but I need Manual Trans Shift Coupler Bushing and or I am thinking of replacing it with a small u-joint.

Maybe I will beable to find something at PA to fix it?

Anyone know how to check the oil and or even do an oil and oil filter change on a old vw motor?

Good find.

@Unbrokenhope - I think that applies to our whole state, or you find a good deal and the jerks never bother to respond to you. :censored:

Maybe your already aware of this but in case your not. It looks like the previous owner did a redneck repair job to fix a broken generator buy adding an alternator on top.

On the VW motor the generator doubles as the connections point for the fan which keeps the air cooled VW motor cool. So its very important to keep it connected even if the generator is not working properly or your motor will fry in about 5 minutes.

In order to change the oil you have to remove the plate at the bottom of the motor there are 8 small nuts that need to be removed. Under the plate is a removable screen, this is how the VW motor filters the oil, it should be removed as well and replaced with a new one. Newer access plates have a removable nut so you can change the oil without removing the plate.

Here is a great web site to have all your VW questions answered.

Thanks for the info but the vw generator was never wired up, I will try to take a pic of the carb too its not right either.

Is the generator on the vw beetle only 6V? Is there a way to make it a 12V?
