New here, not to karts. Current murray kilowatt I'm building with my 12 year old son. It's a murray kilowatt frame I got for a pretty good deal. Predator 420 hemi with a 40 series. Pretty basic build. The a-arm pan was pretty jacked up so we decided to just box the front, move the mounts, and widen the front. Went to a rack and pinion steering set-up. 44" rear axle. We removed the governor on the 420. Installed 50lb springs, omb intake kit and gps .46 jet. Still waiting on exhaust parts to come in. After he gets use to it we will be installing a twister cam, billet flywheel, and mikuni carb.

We still have alot of touch up and clean up to do on the frame. Once that and all the fab work and testing is done we'll pull everything back apart. We're going to sand blast it and spray the frame with raptor coating in desert tan and all of the other parts will be black.

We are also debating on cutting the side guards off and putting something less angled in its place. Need a new pipe bender first though. Biggest thing right now is waiting on parts. GPS seems to take forever these days. Ordered from GPS and OMB 5 minutes apart. Already received the parts from OMB and GPS hasnt even shipped yet.

Got the wiring finished after work today. The top plate and carb parts put on and set up. Found out the lead off of the tach/maint gauge is to short. Also decided to order parts for a hydraulic brake setup. So now I have all new mechanical brake parts for nothing, yet. Spare parts I guess.

Looks great but I think you made a boo boo. The secondary clutch needs to be facing the other way for the belt alignment not to be goofy at high speed. It may just spread belts like that. Go to Gokart Supply and look up 40 series cvt’s for proper alignment instructions.

I'll check that out. The driven is just sitting on a bolt so we could get the belt measurement. Still waiting on the jackshaft and parts from gps.

No kidding. No option but to run it that way due to fitment issues though. The driver was almost hitting the frame so I cut out and moved the engine plate over. Ordered a reverse spring so should be good to go.

Man I've been working on a kilowatt for a while now. Stroked 460 billet everything through a 780 torque converter. Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear with a billet rack and pinion. 16425044901781626262894465232348.jpg

Yeah I seen your kart on the murray fb page. I thought about doing the front brakes the same way you did yours. We still have abunch of parts from his old taotao. But this frame is tweaked a bit so i think we'll save all that for the next one. We're looking for another kilowatt frame for a ninja ex500 swap, 3"-4" frame ext, dual front a-arms, more of a pavement build than off-road. I havent posted pictures yet, but we finished it saturday and he got his first test drive in. Needless to say, all the parts to switch to a hydraulic rear brake set up should be here tomorrow.

Predator 420cc governor gone, 50 lbs. springs installed, and you're going to let the kid get used to it before going to a billet flywheel..............
................You're already modified up to the danger zone of that stock flywheel. If you don't limit the throttle some way to keep it from spinning up to higher rpm's than it can safely handle without exploding, you may end up sorely regretting not having a billet flywheel already.
The governor delete of course would allow it to spin a million rpm if it could do it. The true danger is from deleting the lighter stock valve springs so that valve float doesn't occur at higher rpm, which would have limited how much rpm you can get out of it. The heavier springs absolutely will allow it to spin up way into the danger zone.

I can limit the throttle through the pedal set up. It'll spin to about 4500, hopefully the tach is correct. From what I've read and from the few people I know that race these engines, 5000 is the max on the stock flywheel. The trails its ridden on on the property if hes going fast enough to run that kinda rpms he'll probably find a tree before the flywheel goes. I don't want to loose the charging ability until I figure out an alternator setup.

Mostly done minus a few things. We have to install the hydraulic brakes, relocate the battery, heat sleeve the exhaust, and install the body harness. Also have to figure out how to install a chain tensioner. Overall I'm pretty happy with it and he's more than excited about it. So I'd say it's a win so far.

Just got started on my Kilowatt build a 440 Duromax, I'm a big boy so I did a steering wheel disconnect on mine and made it a lot easier to get in and out!
If you don't mind me asking what length shocks are those front and rear?
Thanks
