First off I would like to say hello to everyone, but I am starting my first ever Go Kart project.
I recently bought a 2 seater with a roll cage for $10.00 from a family member (he wanted it out of his yard)
I am picking it up next week.
It has front suspintion, tires, steering wheel, and hubs.
Baically everything, but the engine.
I have a few questions.
Okay, so it has a thing for a pully attachment with a 13 tooth sprocket behind it with a 48 thooth sprocket.
What is that called?
I think it has a fixed axle, cause both the back tires spin.
Also I wanted to get a Predator 212cc (6.5hp) engine on it.
Will that be enough to make it go!
I'm 18, and weigh about 125 -130 pounds.
Also keep in mind I have older friends, and it's a two seater.
It has drum breaks.
Is that enough to stop it?
I just want to do something fun, and have it to messaround with and fly to my friends and girlfriends house besides my car Hahahahahahaha. I live in the country so it's all good.
Plus I am on a buget so how much would I need to get it running.

Follow me on my first project I will post pics, and updates!

Im new to carts as well. but from what i know u got one hell of a steal on that frame!

and the pully sounds like someone might have started to put a torque converter on
(but like i said im new. not sure)

and for a two seater if u really want any get up id recommend u get a engine with a little more power. but im not sure, just my thoughts

I think it has the whole converter on it.
It actually has two pully drums now that I think about it.
I will post some pictures, and if I get the Predator (honda clone) 6.5hp I plan on moding it.
I am not sure about that, and yeah it was a steal!

For ten bucks with basically everything but the engine, yea id say thats a steal.

The pulley is probably for a TC like previously mentioned and the TC alone is worth over $100
You actually have what is called a "live axle", basically two wheel drive. A "dead axle" is where the motor only drives one wheel
You should have no problem with the predator, everyone on teh forum likes it alot. Its cheap too
Im sure dual drum brakes will work, but I would consider upgrading to a disc setup.
I'd say budget about $200, give or take. you already have a good start with that frame. Also the engine modding will be more money added to teh $200.

Welcome to the forum

Thanks!

I might re-build it, and sell it.
So that I can start an even bigger project, and have a bigger budget!
When I post pictures I am going to need more advice.
I want to make rebuilding small engine, and carts a new hobby!
So everyone will see a lot more of me in the future!

Post pics as soon as you get a chance. We'll be able to help you better then. You will learn the "art" of taking pictures as you go along - as blurry tiny pictures from far away will get you no-where on this forum. Lol. Post high resolution non-blurry pics of items you want advice about. It helps a LOT! :)

Congrats on the kart! If you plan on driving your older/bigger friends around, you're probably going to want somethig bigger than a 6.5hp motor. Problem is, if you go bigger than 8hp, you will need a bigger torque converter too - and they ain't cheap! I'd start looking around for a wrecked snowmobile with good engine and clutch/torque converter... Your kart will freakin' FLY with a sled motor and clutch!!!
