This is my first build.

The motor is a GTX212 -212cc 7hp
12 teeth on motor side and 48 teeth on wheel, which is still on its way.

Will I need to upgrade the breaking system ?
Bigger tires and rims ?

Am I wasting my time ?

Howdy & :welcome2:

We would need to know what kinda kart? (how big, how heavy etc.)

But, a 12T sprocket on the motor (driver sprocket)
...& a 48T sprocket on the axle (driven sprocket) would only a 4:1 GR (gear ratio)

Most times using a 6:1 GR is about the best place to start
...then, after riding (testing) you can (if necessary) adjust the GR for more speed (higher GR)
...or a faster acceleration rate (lower GR) ;)

Howzit,

I have the Evo frame that you see in the picture, which has been chopped and made longer, so that would be the "kart".
Yeah, that magic number 6:1 is far away.
Will see if it can be used as a standup scooter.🤪

More worried if the unit will stop. As, I am using the standard break system that came with the "Evo Powerboard"

If those discs are working properly it shouldn't be an issue. 6-1 ratio for a 10" tire. If thats an 8" you will be better off but it's going to be fast top speed if it will pull the gear. The

Too much power, you will be on your butt more than riding. I would look for or swap that engine with someone that has a Honda with a 2:1 gear reduction built into it with the wet clutch. This would make your project much easier to get a speed that you can handle. And yes figure out a GOOD braking system because the one you have was not based on the speed you will have.
If the tire in the picture is 8" in diameter your speed would be 23mph and if it is 10" then the speed is 29mph based on the 12 /48 gear ratio you gave us. Those are FAST when you are standing up going and you hit a bump that tosses you off you cannot get running that fast to stay on your feet and things break and take a while to heal up. I am old and try to think things out before I jump off the bridge - how deep, is the water cold, the current fast, how big are the sharks, will a boat with a 120hp pass over me before I surface. I try to anticipate most surprises before I hear those famous words-- "boy were you dumb".

Mnts of the farthest NE TN you can go
I personally would put about $50 into the budget for two 8 inch cinder blocks, a pc of 24in X 48in X 3/4 plywood.......if you have used stuff, even better.....for testing purposes of course ;)

@JimD I am all ears as I am over 50.
You make very valid points on the hitting a bump while standing up.
Wheels are on the small side.
@Denny those brakes are not ideal.

I took it for a small test today.

Just going to be used to get lunch every day, might be a 1km walk there and back.

It kicks down !,
No way your going to be pining it, standing up.

I don’t mean to alarm you, but when you were sleeping it looks like some kids vandalized you and colored all over your arm!

Just some other thoughts looking at the picture closely. There is no adjustment for the chain tension-- cannot move rear wheel back, cannot move your idler up or down and the motor mount plate maybe isn't slotted since the piece of steel is so thick but you are in the design stage. You can always put some washers under the engine to lift it higher. You have a strong engine for such a small gearing so you are going to have a lot of torque and speed at the same time so wear some knee pads as you get use to this monster. I have no suggestions on braking other than make sure your health insurance is up to date.

If that was my rig I would get a Honda engine with a 2:1 gear reduction unit built into it with a wet clutch which is all inside the gear reduction unit on the side. Yes, it is a little bigger than the engine on there now because it sticks out further with the 2:1 reduction unit. Look it up and see if you can use it or you might think it detracts from the looks of your rig. You would have to change your alignment to your rear axle and you just might say it just isn't worth all the changes you would have to do but this is only a suggestions.
