Hi, new on here.
Want to ask a quick question, im planning on building a custom trike made from the remains of 2 lawnmowers and a car (basically a no cost project). I have a KOHLER command 14 engine set up to run horizontal shaft, a clutch and gearbox from an old car (its very old, dunno what it was) and an adapter piece for the shaft to flywheel assembly. I want to know will i get good power and acceleration from this set up, its a 4 speed transverse axle gearbox (Like a b4 vw/audi car) which will have 15" diameter wheels. Im planning to make a small trailer for this set up aswell. Heres a few photos of what im starting out with, thanks all.
Engine and clutch (Dirty i know)

This is an old diy lawnmower that the neighbour had lying in his store until i had to clean it out, my idea sparked here. The gearbox is from a car, the petter engine is shot.

Wow- sonofagun. Are those old Peugot or Renault wheels???

You are attempting to spin a LOT of rotating mass with all those very large driveline components. Geared low enough, you have all the makings of a homebrew tractor. But I'm afraid speed is pretty much out of the question here.

Renault wheels. Yes im planning to use smaller wheels and im going to lighten the flywheel since their will be 2!. The gearbox is small and easy to rotate, and yes im only aiming for 50km/h top speed. And as i said some towing ability, also the carb is being upgraded to get better high end power. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

50kph is proberbly a bit too quick

Don't forget that trans will take close to 10hp just to spin it

U could set it to achieve that speed
But then it wouldn't pull anything

Maybe you could look into a dual engine setup
That'll be a differant progect with quite a bit of power

Thoughts of a v-twin crossed my mind. 50kph may be a bit steep of a target, once i have this set up on a bench i will work out what wheels will suit best.
As for a twin engine set up it would go down the route of a tractor. Unless i used a big diesel engine. 40kph is a nice target since it would keep up to tractors
