Redoing another Manco dingo, picked this up last year off the Book of Faces. For $300. A couple young guys or brothers, got there hands on it and “funked” it up. Boys being boys I suppose, I did my share when I was younger. But these guys Incorrectly mounted the motor and torque converter, drilled the crankshaft crooked and tapped the bolt about 3/8” in…….😭😭😭😭. Crankshaft is shot, let it sit outside drank up rain water and such. Bugs made homes in everything. So anyway bought a HF 224, and new torque converter parts and a few spicy parts to put on this engine To get her back going again.

We blanked Out the background on the first 3 pics since they were from the original FB post, (didn’t want to show the guys stuff).

I had to literally cut the motor off the mount from where the guys welded to the frame to. Again they tried to make something work to ride around on.

The front wheels had water and some other goo in them and had to cut the tires off the wheels from being rusted extremely bad
I sandblasted and powder coated the wheels in semi gloss black.

Installed new tires and new bearings.

Looks like you are making some progress on your way to having some fun. It also sounds like you know what you are doing. Great. Didn't know that the inside of a wheel could rust that bad. Wonder if the goo you mentioned could be Fix A Flat. Pretty cool you got your own oven for powder coating. ( Can't be
your wife's stove, can it.) The young fellas you bought it from were at least trying. Better doing that then stting in their bedroom playing video games. We were all young once weren't we. I know I sure did some awfully dumb stuff with cars and motorcycles 55 to 60 years ago.

Thank you, I enjoy rebuilding these.
I think you may be right, I’ve heard of Fix a Flat doing this to car wheels/tires. And no we got this stove so I could powder coat in it 😬😬😬. Far far away from the house.
Yes, I am glad they tried do something something with it, and correct they could have been inside on cell phones/video games and what not.

At least it is oozing with potential! Glad it is in good hands now. Yes fix a flat will corrode a rim in little time!
hahahah I appreciate that. Kinda goes with the slime green paint 😏😏😏. Hard part is matching this paint, the Red dingo I did last year was a little bit easier to match up

That definitely put me on the right track for the paint, thank you I appreciate that!!!!

found some by rustoleum, that’s a custom neon green that’s a close match to this, I just want to touch up the rusty places under the frame from rocks, sticks and stuff to help keep this from the bottom falling out 😅😅

Was able to do some more work last night, pulled the spindles off and re-bent them back to straight, these things even with springs still take a good beating. I cut a small piece of 1/4” steel as a gusset and welded it on to help strengthen this area, blasted and powder coated them.

I do have to comment, I ended up getting the newer style small wheel/tire changer from Harbor Freight to do these wheels and tires. If did pretty good for the price, as always there’s some room for improvement but all in all got the job done, but do need to touch up a few spots on the wheels with some paint to blend everything.

Finally got a chance to start cleaning the bottom of the kart, ole girl got some age on her. As with anything resto job the more you clean, the more you find right? The more I hit it with a wire wheel cleaning the rust more and more rust started appearing. Not going to put a ton of time in this, but still want to give it some more life. Still have more to touch up on it but steady as she goes…..

So a hard lesson learned, regular red oxide rustoleum primer and a laquer based paint do NOT mix, some spots I painted today krinkled really bad and pretty much peeled off with my finger nail, will have to fix spots that are bad with a laquer primer and touch up what I can. Will post pics soon…..
