Drove out today to check out a kart and ended up taking it home. It’s a Manco 390 with the trailer hitch on the rear and a 9hp Briggs with comet 40 series. Looks to be completely original. Even the seat is factory (headrest seat was used for backrest)
The kart is in overall great shape. Surface rust here and there but no pitting or cancer. Front arms and braces are straight and not tweaked. The pull cord doesn’t fully retract. Amazingly the kart starts on the first pull. It idles very smooth. Revs yo fine and comes back down to idle normally. Chain is broken so I couldn’t drive it.
Kill switch is functional. Factory tabs for lights. Factory Battery box in the rear. Tie rods are shot.
This kart comes on the heels of the 285 I got last week. I’m thrilled to have both the small and large dingos in the stable now.
The kart will be sand blasted and refurbished. Torque converter will be refreshed. Axle bearings and components will be refreshed. Not sure on the power plant yet. I think this is a good candidate for a 420 though.
Picked the kart up for $200. I’ll make a build thread on it when I get around to working on it.
The past 2 months have been busy acquiring go karts. My garage is tapped out.
1. Yerfdog 3203-Build Complete
2. Bird Engineering Baja-Build In progress
3. Spiderbox 3206-Future Build
4. Yerfdog 30032-Build in progress
5. Manco Dingo 285 (old style with rounded engine cage)-Build In Progress
6. Spiderbox 3209 (haven’t posted about this one)-Future Build-on deck-collecting parts
7. Manco Dingo 390-Future Build
Aside from the weird trike I spoke about in the other thread, I’m done for now squiring karts and will shift focus to bringing all these to their former glory.
I honestly have no logical explanation as to why I bought so many projects so quickly, I just like to stay busy I guess.
Much more to come over the next 6 months!!
Much more to come. The last picture shows everything except the Baja.
