My newest project has arrived. I got a really good deal on it.

Need some feedback.. About to strip it down and paint it to bring the "new" look back.

Any thoughts on colors to paint it?
(I was thinking, graphite gray w/some sparkly silver flake deep in the paint)

I'm not much on the the yellow colored performance shocks, even though its a pretty standard color for perf shocks. But what other colors could I paint the shocks?

The seats are going to be stripped out and recovered or I might buy black and midnight blue racing seat covers for it and not go through all the trouble of having to refinish them.

Only problems I know of as of right now:

1. Front right tire is border line dry rotted
(And if I replace that, ill probably have to replace both front tires to match. Not happy about having to fork out $150+ for 2 new front tires cause I thought they were fine)

2. Engine has huge crack in air filter box

3. No battery, guy says it was stolen.

4. No key for it. He lost it and doesn't really know where it is. (This go kart was chained outside his repair shop for 6 months. That would explain why the battery is missing)

5. The spark plug boot was cut off the side.. Why anyone would steal that is beyond me, but then again I don't know what goes through people's minds.

6. Since their was a huge crack in the air box.. Im wondering if water from the rain has made its way into the engine, hopefully it's restorable.

Basically, because of the missing spark plug boot, battery, an no key, and front flat I haven't cranked it nor ridden it yet.

Any ideas on where to maybe get a key that would fit it? It's a "Punisher Go kart" .. I don't mind ordering online, but would rather get one locally at auto parts place.

For $350 bucks, I think I got a pretty good deal, huh? Considering these are $2800 new.

And I don't have a manual for it, which isn't a must have, but it could tell me a lot of what I don't know about it.

Let me know your thoughts.

Any thoughts on colors to paint it?
(I was thinking, graphite gray w/some sparkly silver flake deep in the paint)

You can either:
1. Have the colour made
2. Mix silver & black
3. Using paint tints, spray it with a metallic base coat then a black top coat. The metallic base will appear through the translucent black tint & will have a dark metallic grey appearance. Watch my build log for the effect...

I'm not much on the the yellow colored performance shocks, even though its a pretty standard color for perf shocks. But what other colors could I paint the shocks?

Personally, I think the yellow will "pop" against the dark grey...

Other options include red, light blue, silver, lavender...

2. Engine has huge crack in air filter box

Probably easiest to remove it & replace it with a hi folw filter...

6. Since their was a huge crack in the air box.. Im wondering if water from the rain has made its way into the engine, hopefully it's restorable.

That could be a problem; the only way to know for sure is to remove the head but, you can do a presumptive test by removing the carb & see if anything appears "wet"...

Basically, because of the missing spark plug boot, battery, an no key, and front flat I haven't cranked it nor ridden it yet.

Yeah, great deal IF IT RUNS! There's two possible scenarios here:
1. You get extremely lucky when you replace the battery, spark plug boot &/or anything else needed & it just starts or
2. The engine is toast (one possible reason it's been sitting for 6 months) & you have to replace it.

For your sake, I hope it's scenario 1 but, for some reason, I don't think so...

Good luck, keep us informed

Where can I buy a metallic primer coat? Is tints a different kind of auto spray paint? Never heard of tint paint. And for the black outer coat should I use a flat black or a semi gloss black? I was in Lowes and they don't sell a metallic primer. Just gray or black primer.

Any idea on a key? Or should I just buy a new starter switch?

You mean like a big k&n air filter or something? Not familiar with air filters. So I would remove that big black box and just put a performance grade air filter on?

if you post a picture of the starter key switch, i can probably tell you what it needs. if its just a basic one, you can turn it with a small screwdriver without damaging it.

I didn't say metallic primer, I said

metallic base coat

This is the first layer applied after the primer.

Tints are what's used to make a desired colour (mix red & blue, you get purple, blue & yellow make green, red & yellow make orange, etc). If you've ever seen paint mixed, you'd see that different colours are added to a base colour to create a different colour; those added colours are called tints or tinters. A single tint will be translucent when sprayed, allowing the base coat the show through.

As I said, watch my build thread; weather permitting, we'll be painting my frame next weekend & I plan to take lots of pics...

A good locksmith should be able to make a key from the lock but, it may cost a bit. If you can find a cheap lock with a key, that's probably the way to go...

Correct. The air box should connect to a rubber tubing or directly to the carb, simply find a filter with the same size neck & attach it.

Punisher Go Kart Problems.. HELP!!

Im starting to feel defeat sweeping towards me, but hopefully with the help of you experts.. I can overcome this.

It's a punisher go kart, a few of the issues were previously posted.

1.Bought a battery, but still no key for the ignition switch. I took some pictures of the ignition switch. Is there a universal key that would fit this model or a ghost key or something? I can go buy a new one, but don't really want to of I don't have to.

2. I took the three wires off the back and can't remember what went where.. (I know smart move) it has a solid green, yellow w/green stripe, black (ground). On the back where the wires attach I noticed some Roman numerals.. "I, II, & III" - 1,2,3 ..
Just need to know what wires go where.. Attached picture below.

3. No sure if it would mess something up, but I wanted to see if the engine would start to turn so I took a loose wire and connected it to the positive on battery and then touched the positive cylinoid with it and it started to spark, but the engine started turning.

Ultimately, just wanna see if I can start it while I try and sort out the ignition switch issue and loss of a key.

Thanks for any help or info you can give!

you dont NEED to have a key switch. just figure out which wires do what, and wire in a toggle switch and a starter button.

I WANT a key switch because I want what was originally on there.. And there are so many wires in the fuse box, I don't know even know where to start. I can pick the current key lock that's on there, but regardless I still don't know where the three wires go on the ignition switch.
