I have an unknown brand rusted-out live-axle franken-kart that I'm trying to make road worthy for my son. Yesterday we tried to strip the axle of all its bits.

The toughest bit was one of the wheel hubs. In the process of removal, it was destroyed beyond repair (overzealous use of a gear puller and impact wrench).

I'm finding it difficult to find a replacement hub. Here's a basic description:
- 4 bolt pattern
- approx 3in bolt circle diameter (or 4in square)
- 7/8in bore with 1/4in keyway
- axle is 1in with a 7/8in step down

I've checked several sites and spent about an hour googling with no luck.

Any thoughts on where I might find a replacement?

If I can't find a replacement, what would it cost to have the axle turned at a machine shop to say 3/4in. Would that make it easier to find a hub that fits?

OOooooKay.....So.....you've basically showed a picture of a spark plug....and even though you have described it pretty well.....the easiest route is to show what it came off of.....

In otherwords.....a pic of the kart is more helpful than the wheel....even WITH accurate measurements! !!!!

Welcome to the forum....a few pics of the kart wouldn't hurt......(but to be honest.....we could probably do this)....but why add difficulty and potential failure into the equation.....when a pic of the kart would be so helpful......?????

BTW: Welcome to the forum.....and please fill out a profile location......

Ok that is not a spark plug. Check MFG supply or BMI karts. Should be able to find a hub there. At MFG you can get a new hub and sprocket about 14 bucks each.
Also yeah it may be best to just upgrade the whole setup to 1". Easier to find parts, they will all be new, and standard off the shelf replacements will always be available.
AND post a bunch of pics of what you got.

Not sure the pile of parts is very helpful, but you asked :)

The picture of the end of the axle is probably more useful.

It already is a 1in axle so if I can't identify a supplier for this hub, I may have the axle machined.

OK, well I don't see squat for hubs like that..... The bolt pattern is 4 on 4" and is standard for golf cart wheels. If it where me, I'd make my own. If I didn't have that ability, I'd just buy a straight 1" axle , and 1" wheel hubs.

Yes.....the "spark plug " is an anology.....in other words....it's easier to identify an engine by looking at the whole engine....rather than the spark plug.....

And even if it's not the be all ......end all solution to the search......the point is....a good , clear. picture of the whole kart....could certainly possibly help in identifying the part in question, reinforce any questionable suspicions......or reinforce positive identification.....

As I said.....we can do without them.....but we can do better with......

Hmmm....

If I have it to have it machined, maybe I cut a little more and convert it to one wheel drive using one of these:

http://www.mfgsupply.com/gomini/gominihubs/8-10082.html

It could barely turn before I tore it down. Part of that was due to back a**ward Ackerman, part low tire pressure and part live axle on pavement. This kart's off-road days are over, so why not kill the live axle? Thought's?
