So Azusa Tri-Star aluminum wheels aren’t perfect from the factory....(oh dear). Most would argue that it doesn’t matter and they are good enough for fun kart/minibike use especially in lieu of the way they are used off-road or on rough surfaces, and the way our 4-stroke industrial motors shake and vibrate. The average Joe would likely never notice if they are wobbly or slightly out of round. Those that do notice might be disgusted, appalled and throw them in the trash.

Part or all of the problem is due to the fact that they are two-piece wheels and any casting imperfections that result is usually manifested on the inner sides where they are mated together, i.e. “casting flash” I would assume the problem affects their “Astro” and ”Spinner” aluminum wheels in the same manner.

This video and how-to document addresses how to fix them and also addresses installation of Azusa brakes. The aircraft folks are rather persnickety; good thing too, I guess.

The document is a great general guide to installing tires, tubes and brakes that is applicable to our use. Not sure of the efficacy of the Azusa drum brake though for constant stop and go use, but they’re probably fine for minor taxiing around the field and of course a landing at the end. I like the sound of that Aero Precision drum with cooling fins.

It says to inflate tubes to 50 psi? 😮 The newer Tri-Stars have "30 psi maximum" cast into the rim.
