I found a guy that has a brand new 5.0 Honda GC 160 for 275$ (Canadian), he said it was 475$ new. Anyone know anything about that engine? I figured before I make anything to crazy I should tinker with a smaller kart. I was searching for used engines but found that one. What do you think?

I have no idea what I want haha, haven't built a Kart yet. The last thing I worked on with a motor it was a 455 big block.... these little guys are new to me. I'm assuming a clone is a motor pretty much designed directly from the Honda motors?

Hah! I think I figured out where the gas tank for the LowRider v2 came from!

There's a reason the Honda GC series is cheaper. (From what I've heard) They are no where near as durable as a GX engine.

Camshaft has interesting design. I have the vertical shaft version of this engine and was surprised to see it has only 1 cam lobe that operates intake and exhaust valves. Utilizes a belt instead of chain. Cam is plastic of coarse.

I think the main disadvantage of a single lobe is that you can't vary the duration of the intake vs exhaust, but since these are utility motors...... who cares about tuning for performance?

The plastic cam thing makes me wonder......

Do these OHC engines rev any higher than the OHV GX engines?

With cars, OHC revs higher, so that's why I ask.

Russ got the photo? Im eager to see this! Nothing wrong with a Nylon cam gear. Infact in some situations metel to plastic is better and more forgivving.
