On go kart spindles, do the tubes have to be exactly 1/2" I.D.? Or is 9/16" okay?

Edit:

Since I'm on the subject of steering right now, I have an 1/8" pin holding my steering together, should I just weld it solid?

Robert: going through the steering shaft, and the pitman arm, is a 1/8" type of "pin" that makes it so when the steering shaft turns, so does the pitman arm. Heres a picture:

Also, the spindle tube, it calls for a 1/2" bolt. I have the half inch bolts, and I need to know if I can use 9/16" I.D. tubes, instead of 1/2"

well, the whole idea is that it's tight. I wouldn't use something with a 1/16 of "slop" in it.. I'd either go larger, and get some bushings, or make it tight. you don't want your steering rattling at 20+ MPH!
