since we all know how quickly weblinks can disappear at times..
how about you add the karts manual (pdf form) instead (or additionally)..
that way we keep as much information available for as long as we can :D

Bird Engineering Starbird

The Bird engineering Starbird A.K.A Model #41553:

The company started out as Fox Corporation, then became Bird Engineering(most famous stage) and then was bought out by Phoenix Engineering in the early 80s. They have since closed down. :(
The Starbird was Bird's "base model" and little brother to the Bird Baja and Baja Magnum.
There were 2 versions: The "Direct" model sold by Bird Engineering, and the toned down Sears version.
The Direct model had rubber pads on the pedals, a handbrake lever attached to the brake shaft, a fancier seat, aluminum split rims, a big spoiler, and a fairing piece over the steering shaft.(None of these are on the Sears model).
Specs:
  • Scrub brakes
  • One wheel drive
  • 4.10/3.50x5 tires all around
  • 1" gusseted frame
  • Non heim joint steering system(creates undesirable slop, but is still fun to drive)
  • They came with either a 3.5 HP Briggs or Tecumseh flathead, or a 5 HP Briggs or Tecumseh flathead(I've seen different ones, but there's no knowing if they're original or not)
  • 5/8" spindle arms
  • 3/4" rear axle

I have a Sears model with a non original engine. Also visible is the Bird Engineering logo, and a few ads from back in the day for Bird karts.
These are very tough, classic karts, but they are rare. As of today(9/26/2019) I know of 9 on the entire internet! And that includes mine!

My Build Off build log documenting my discoveries and adventures with my kart shown below:http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=40841
BTW my kart has the original front tires and steel split rims! :wai:
