Hi im new to this.
If I want to make my own frame (off road) what would you suggest i use. Like an old roof rack off a van. I have a budget so i would prefer not to buy brand new metal pipes and everything.
Thanks :rolleyes3:

I'm not a metallurgical engineer by any stretch bit I'm guessin' a van roof rack might have a little more flex than you want...

Seriously though, we're all on budgets of one type or another but there's an old adage about race cars that applies to go karts:
You can be cheap, you can be fast, you can be safe. Pick two.

You'll probably get enough advice in this thread on how to do what you want as reasonably as possible, but somethings you may have to spend some $ on or do some scavenging and obtain in order to keep out of the Emergency room.

Look around your neighborhood, bed frames make good building material, anything built with 1" square tube can be cut apart. 1"x1" angle iron can be made into square tube When you look at something think how you can, cut chop rebuild.

Round tubing can be used too. Scrap yards are a good source of materials on a budget.

Speaking of which; how much were you thinking of spending?

I was hoping of spending little over 100 pounds for the frame. Hopefully cheaper or do I need to spend a bit mor money? Thanks

LOL! That's great. I used to own a web design company. I used: "You can have FAST, CHEAP OR GOOD, but you can only pick two!" Love it.

The amount you spend depends on what you spend it on & where you spend it. A junkyard will be cheaper but you won't have the range of a steel merchant. Plus, using second hand materials will probably mean a bit of cleaning.
