8311E756-D8A8-4D7D-8888-A6C4B04617AB.jpgI need to replace the threads on this gas tank. Outside diameter in the new steel bung is 1 3/4. Is this doable or should I look for something larger? I’ve seen kart tanks that have this type of bung and cap setup. Enclosing a picture to show what I’m working with. Ed

It's right around the right size so it should work? How are you planning on fixing it to the tank? Keep in mind that unless theres a separate vent on the tank you'll want a vented cap or fuel wont flow (if gravity fed). In the event you have a fuel pump, negative pressure (vacuum) will start to build up in the tank and eventually fuel will cease to flow.

I would just get a different gas tank. Unless those are pressed in somehow, it's going to be a huge pain getting that out without drilling it out completely and trying to fill in the gap to be sealed. Like mentioned, you'll want a vented cap, to allow fuel to flow easier.

I asked the seller if it was vented and he said yes. Not in filler neck but cap? The Mcculloch gas tanks go for a lot of dough. There’s gotta be a way to replace the mashed in threads with new bung and cap.

Interesting.... just as long as it IS vented. I'd insist he confirm, I mean it's more work for the seller to have to deal with a return. I'd think braze welding it would be the way to go

I looked on fleabay and saw them, looks like the vented one has the hole on the side for some reason? Anyway as long as its vented you should be good to go!

To risk not having an explosion, the tank should be soldered without flame...
A soldering iron or a hand copper would be best...
