Hello All,

Here are some photos of my recently completed project. Had lots of fun and learned a lot about EV's.

The quad on the trailer is what I drug home to start with.

That looks quite nice,
could a add some more details please..

Sure- Started with a Polaris 300 quad and old EZ-Go golf cart. I had to make several parts for the transition in my little machine shop at home.

The motor is a GE series wound 2HP that I had to make a spline shaft to get the sprocket. I used (4) 30ah 12V AGM batteries connected to a 200a 48v Kelly programmable controller.

I completed it last Summer, but it was so much fun to run around the neighborhood, that I didn't get it painted & ready to sell until late in the Fall season, thus I still have it.

Cool, so you managed to find one of those rare "capped" motors ..
unfortunately (thanks to all the transaxles) nowadays golfcarts like to come with open rotors on one end :(

I really like that;
Now I know it sounds like a stupid question, but would you care to estimate the motor weight;
and give us an acceleration rating (subjective is okay)

The reason I ask is this,
it'd be nice to actually refer to this thread in the future;
the next time someone asks about some RC motor (claiming to have about the same wattage fitting in the palm of a hand or something)
I can just link here and show them what weight a motor should have to withstand some abuse and provide consistent reliable power for more than 20sec at a time ;)

Also:
do you have the stator coils in series or seperately excited?
(can't tell from the pics.. the frame's in the way :()

Nice wiring btw;
looks like I can almost tell what goes where just by looking at a picture :thumbsup:

Anyways, well done indeed!
To bad you're going to sell it.. looks like it's a ton of fun

Oh.. is it too keen to ask for a video of it "in action"?

Here are two videos:

Motor weight=~40#

I'm too ignorant to answer your question regarding the stator winding.
(I have a neighbor who is an EE and he helped me with the electrical logic)

thank you,
man.. I love that sound.. '[size1]whiff[/size]' LOL too great!

no need to call your neighbor ..
are the two prongs in the center of the motor wired directly to the controller (seperately excited),
or are they wired in series with the rotor coils (the two on the back)
I was just interested, not too important really ;)

a subjective (your opinion on) speed and acceleration though would still be nice;
for future reference ;)

I think it's a little sad you joined us a too late for a full build log now that it's all done and such..
but again... I still like that :D

The top end speed is ~30mph. Acceleration is smooth and quick enough for me, but it won't lose traction on take off :(.

Both center taps run to the F|R switch??

I never thought of this quad as a "Kart", but now I see a lot of variations on this forum. I got the idea for my next project from this forum- 1/2 scale Army Mule. "Dowies" said on this forum that he has a complete set of plans, but his post is closed and I can't get him to answer a pm. Any other way of reaching a member?

well he hasn't been logged in for the past 5 years or so..
so no, no other way!

The basic dimensions (well much more than just the basics) are in his first post of said build.
you can easily work from there (with patience that is)

but there are more mule's that have been built over the years, check the other threads and see what Info you can derive from those.

I have another, better "capped" GE 2HP 36V motor that I want to sell, but this site won't let me post in the want ads section??

Anyway, if anyone is interested-

Thanks!
