I have always wanted to do this , and I think my kart would be fun with 20hp and a 40 series tc.

This is like a very poor tutorial , so hold my beer and enjoy!

Stuck a bolt where the gov arm was.

Made up intake and side cover gaskets.

Undecided on what carb to run

Will run duel exhaust with 2 can mufflers

Found out oil dippers are part # 691733

Time to make the sump

Yeah it's not as simple as sealing the leaks and making a bracket so it stands on it's arse.

If it was, there wouldn't be 746254960263758 threads on "is it possible to put a lawnmower engine on a go kart?"

Those vertical shaft opposed twins were plagued with oiling problems as they were. Turn it sideways and run it with no governor, and I don't see this going very well. It might work out for you though. This design was always much better in a horizontal configuration. If you can get the sump and dippers right, this could be a good strong engine. Gotta love a 180° v-twin

It would be cool to run a couple ~12hp downdraft carbs mounted on short runners straight above the intake ports.

Factory replacement for the horizontal version of the engine.

Not quite as simple, but as long as the oil level is right in the motor I think it will be ok.

I want duel carbs, I still might but its much easier to make 1 small manifold, then there is tuning, chokes, throttles, ect.

been thinking on my v-twin and wonder if on something like this. will the mounting holes hold up to being mounted side ways with the torque. i did find an outlet next to my oil filter for a pressure gauge.

there is a guy on youtube that did a v-twin and used a exhaust pipe elbow to mount his carburetor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb_zYsLjCkU

good luck!

Well , on my twin, the oil sump will have the mounting holes to bolt down the motor. Just like the factory did. I would buy a factory one, but finding it is quite the challenge.

I am probably going with a large tillotson or mikuni I have sitting around.

Welded the exhaust up, pointing back for kart use.

I kind of like that long runner intake. I wonder if one of those would bolt up to my 18hp horizontal opposed twin...

Electric start and charging will be nice

If anyone was wondering how to add/ check the oil

The pan had a 1/4 npt hole with a plug in it.

I got two 3/8 compression fittings. Cut the dipstick short, clamped it down.

I will add a support bracket from the side cover to hold up the dipstick.

Got the dippers in, torque spec is 190 in/lbs

Put pan on with new gasket, X4 3/8 cap screws 3.5in long were used.
19 ft/lbs.

Has oil in it now!

Made the carb adapter, need a rubber boot to start it!

Hopefully this helps someone doing this conversion, as it was hard to find the parts. No one says buy these two part numbers, or done any kind of helpful tutorial.
