Bird Baja Build

I bought this about three years ago with the intention to build it right away. Life and other projects got in the way and I finally got around to it over the past couple of weeks. This is really two karts built into one. I got a really nice original but it had been cut in have in a bad attempt to put a spring suspension on the back of it. I found another Baja frame and used it for the build. I wanted to keep it as original as possible but the front wheels were too far gone so I put 3/4 spindles on the front with 6" wheels. This is going to be ridden by my two nephews so I want it to be able to take the beating that I know they will give it.

I haven't been on in a while but I wanted to update everyone. The Baja is finished! I already gave it to my nephews and they love it. Here are some pics. I rebuilt the original Tecumseh 5hp for it. It runs great!

Ooo! Ooo! You even saved the original Tecumseh AND the differential!! Totally awesome! I'd say that's THE BEST Bird Eng. restoration I've ever seen!

Did your card have this type of setup. If so does it work well.

That is nowhere near the correct set up for a cart! It looks like someone tried to make it better without having a clue as to how it is supposed to work.

It works pretty good at this point. Lever moves belt tensioner engages belt and off you go.

Notice the engine has a 120v plug in starter?

And the double V- belt pulley that someone decided to use neither,
and run the belt between them instead? Does that scream factory to you?

Its a snowblower engine someone poorly hacked onto the kart.
The tensioner arm was for the wheel drive of the snowblower.

I must admit it is creative

Sorry, somehow I missed this post. I passed them under the seat and then ran them along the inside of the frame to the front.
