Where the steering rack is supposed to pivot upward, needs to be align with the pivot of the a-arms. That will prevent bumpsteer (what you have).

I don't know if you are going to find one that is short enough to fit in the center of the frame without protruding beyond the inner pivot point of the a arms.

Steering and suspension geometry can get really tricky, particularly when you're looking at a relatively long travel relative to the width of the suspension.

If you cannot find a shorter rack, your next best option will be to widen the frame where the a-arms are supported, out to where the rack will pivot upward inline with the a-arms.

Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. I researched ā€œbump steerā€ more last night and see what youā€™re referring to. I found a rack that is close, about an inch longer than ideal. I may try that first before having to fabricate a new front end.

So I extended the frame and bought a shorter steering rack. I have minimized the bump steer, but not eliminated it. Iā€™m thinking what is remaining is due to the difference in angle between the A arms and the tie rods? If I elevate the steering rack so the tie rods are parallel to the A arms, will that help?

Any thoughts on the wheel travel? I originally thought one had a sharper radius than the other, but it may just be an illusion.

At it again.

Well I cut the entire front end off today and started fabrication on a new one. Hopefully with a better understanding of bump steer and Ackermann.

I am a big fan for offroad of equal length and equal spacing (vertical ) a-arms that way you have no camber changes, for bump steer the tie rods need to be same length and same pivot points...no of course on road w/o the slippage...this would be crappy...BUT you could do some serious 3 wheel action with enough power :wai:

Iā€™ve been really slow on this project šŸ˜¢. Here is some work I did yesterday.

The A-arms are the same length, but the calipers have an offset built into them, so I made the top frame rail larger in order to keep the A arms the same.

Hey mate. I'm having the same problem as you. Have this helped you at all?

The above fix seemed to help quiet a bit. Itā€™s not perfect, but I think thatā€™s on my end, not the mechanics of it. What part are you having trouble with?
