Got this gokart today for 40$ with a brand new 3hp Briggs engine. I’ll be posting my progress up until now and however far I get with it.68912CA2-6000-457E-9E07-FC54803F23B2.jpeg

The Briggs was locked along with the steering but I got the steering freed up. Good thing I have a bunch of mini bikes for wheels.AA5D8FC7-B846-4EFD-94F2-70A420396E49.jpeg

I put it all back together and it didn’t have spark. So off with the flywheel and a quick run with a points file and the engine runs well.. like a brand new one. Nothing to special I guess.04217546-B1EA-4011-B78C-A405EF630070.jpeg

Picked it up around one and that’s as far as I have got. Gotta pull some crap out of the garage to make room to work so I’m not in the rain.

The gokart has the whole back end lobbed off and a complete live axle kit with split sprockets installed. It took me a minute to notice the back end was flush cut on each side. All the bolts holding the live axle kit where missing. I replaced them and got the axle free. Both front wheels freed up and the back axle spins now. I have the back wheels. Go power sports sells one inch sprocket hubs for super cheap. I’m gonna move the hub and engine mount on the kart already more towards the middle of the axle and make room on the back left of the kart for a second engine. C6A66DE1-EC27-4044-8553-4951F1EA9D63.jpeg

Not much done today.. Put a steering wheel on it and I have tubes for the smaller tires that are going on the rear. The hub allows split sprockets or standard sprockets to be used. So I can remove the split sprocket and bolt a regular 420 chain sprocket to the hub and use my clutch. I’m going out later to weld some pedals together for the throttle and brake. EDIT: And now I realize the hub doesn’t allow for standard sprockets.. I have to buy a clutch.F477F1DF-B59D-4833-9A70-3D4A0E1C814D.jpeg

I like what you are doing so far, I hope everything works out the way you want.
Do you think you will paint it a different color?

My dad always tells me about his blue duel engine gokart he had when he was a kid. It had only one clutch and the second engine had just a sprocket welded to the output shaft and the throttle wired wide open. He said one lap around the yard till the second engine fired up and then two or three laps on both engines till the chain snapped.. I’m definitely keeping it blue and I’m gonna try to build him the kart he had when he was younger. Except it’s hopefully gonna be way more reliable then the original. We dug through his garage and I found one of the keyed rims for the live axle. Just have to install the tube. A cheap hub from gopowersports and I can use a four lug rim/tire from one of the other karts and that way both back tires will be the same size. 6F3672E8-7FA8-4907-837F-C06F123B353E.jpegE41BEBFE-AC8C-4D9A-8F1F-CCCC72D6429D.jpeg0901F13C-5CA9-4ABB-952A-AC36D734A8FE.jpegDDA49014-E3AC-4B89-AF55-46BA8E5C2C8A.jpeg

These bearings have the locking collar for the axle is that all that is required to hold the axle? Or is it a good idea to throw a second locking collar on the outside of each hanger also? EDC1C1C3-C486-4857-974A-51B4E947838C.jpeg

That bolt was never going to come loose. Mistakes were made. I think I’ll grab both knuckles off the front of the kohler kart and use those. Just waiting on all the parts to show up now. fair warning those carbs are no fun to work on, buy a full rebuilt racing one or spend the time and be very careful rebuilding every 24 hours of riding time, unless you get lucky and get a few days out of it, i made a conversion to a modern briggs carb because i was tired of messing with it, sadly the engine is just sitting on a shelf right now, im going to put it on my drover again once i rebuild the frame
