Does this come apart? It looks like it is splined. If it does, there may be a chance....

By the way, what is your location?

Yes it is splined and it does come all apart. I measured it and it appears to be the exact same dimensions as the typical gy6 shaft besides the length, so I think it should work. I did, however talk to a mechanic today and he told me I would not find another engine like this anywhere on the market because it’s just not made anymore. I clicked on your second link and sent them a message to see if they could help me out in my situation though

I also have a few questions if anyone can answer them- my bolt hole spacing for my intake manifold on this old engine is 42mm, but I cannot find one anywhere on the internet. I would like a decent performance one but definitely wont spend more than 40-50 bucks. My next question was how big of a carburator comes stock on the gy6? Mine was missing the carb when I got it, so I have no idea. How big can should I get if I'm going to put a 180cc bore on mine? Is there a big intake manifold for a 180cc bore thats got 42mm bolt hole spacing out there? I sure as **** couldn't find one.

Thanks a bunch Karttekk! That really helps I hadn’t found that page yet. I am, however, still having trouble finding the correct intake manifold. Everything online is saying the bolt holes should be 45mm across center to center, but mine is the 42mm.

I am still deciding what to do- I have talked to several mechanics and gotten several opinions- some say it’s better to just use an entirely different engine because these engines are **** and break after every ride- like the clutch goes out all the time and the rings are worn after a couple rides. Some say I can upgrade them to go from 12 bhp to potentially 21hp and will pull us up any hill. I’m still fighting the battle of whether I’m going to need to do a ton of fabrication to get a motorxycle motor in it, or try sticking with a new stock motor and upgrading it myself.

I still think in the long run you're better off looking for a good used American Sportworks kart like the Carbide; or a Hammerhead or Trailmaster kart. Like I mentioned earlier, Carter is out of business and parts are nearly impossible to find. If and when you do get yours running you'll eventually need other parts for it and you'll be back in the same boat. There are plenty of upgrades available for the later model options too. It's great you have the incentive to get yourself into a decent kart but it may be more frustrating than it's worth. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks

hmmm.... good question....
I reckon off hand... that looks like a tensioning method for the drive chain..... It looks necessary for it to be the same way... as how with the new motor are you to do the same without it....

Does that shaft come off of the "drive spindle" ?....

I'll have to get you specs tomorrow. Same kart I have

Couple hundred and specific parts it will scream.
Invest in New racing CDI, 11 pole stator, 7 post rectifier, good carb!!! Makes world of difference
