Hey guys! My neighbor just gave me a go kart that was made out of a golf kart and this thing is really cool! I just want to know what kind of engine I should put in it to get it up to maybe 40 mph. He was going to put in a 16hp engine, but what do you you guys think?

I plan on driving it on the road and my driveway which is very smooth, but there is plenty of room, so I'd like it to go a little over 30 mph. Also, it will be driven by one wheel.

I'm doing the best I can with the welder that is available to me right now. Our current house is not wired up for the way more powerful stick welder and those spindles are what I've been worried about from the beginning, but they seem to be doing alright.

You're just one year off, I'm 14. Looking at the pictures, I understand why the kart looks weak, but I used grade 8 bolts for the axles and spindles. I can stomp on it and jump on it and nothing bends or breaks. I've read over all of the comments several times and I've checked those things out...

Thanks for the info. I actually do plan on adding on some stronger metal for the seat to bolt on to. It's not actually mounted to anything right now. I just had it there for show and all of the axles and spindles are actually quite strong, but I love your idea of putting a second rail on both...

Well getting advice is the whole point I joined this forum, I'd be interested to know about those weak spots that you're talking about. I'm trying my best to make it safe.

Oh my god I'm jealous! Those rotary engines are awesome and they give so much power for their size. That thing must be really loud though.

Hi, I'm back with another question. I have a design for the spindles on my go kart, but I'm worried it won't turn smoothly. I think if I use metal on metal it will be hard to turn the steering wheel. Can someone tell me how to make a spindle that will feel smooth and solid when I make a turn?

Thanks, after doing some reading I think I'll drive it with one wheel since I intend to use drive it on pavement a lot.

I'm building a go kart and I'm not sure what to do about a rear axle. To me, the best way to go is to put a differential on a regular axle so that both wheels get power, but it still corners well, but I don't have the money to get one of those. I have driven a go kart with a gear bolted directly...
