Another Arachnic Granddaddy Iteration - Project Log

Final product and lessons learned post. -Using electric start, running a lawnmower battery, and 4 LED lights (2 flood, 2 spot, 18 Watts each) -5-point harnesses with lap belts bolted to frame using 1/2" grade 8, straps are tied off to back bar per directions. -Chinese copy of Comet 40...

Another Arachnic Granddaddy Iteration - Project Log

Got the skid plates welded on, tacks along outside edge on bottom and multiple 1" welds inside each panel area. Wanted to be able to stand on it. This is where I got to one of the most tedious lessons learned, paint prep. This is a conundrum due to amount of time we all really have to spend...

Another Arachnic Granddaddy Iteration - Project Log

Rear frame is connected to main using two 3/4" bolts. Same bar stock tab configuration as front suspension. Should note I placed gussets on rear tabs of front suspension and on all rear end tabs. Tried to space rear end attachments as far apart as possible for lateral loads (thinking of all...

Another Arachnic Granddaddy Iteration - Project Log

I have been watching the DYGK forums for a while trying to learn as much as possible from all the different types of projects everyone has going. It has been very helpful. We finally got the project up running on its own power about a month ago and have been tuning on bugs, so I'm finally...

Spider Cart Grand Daddy A-Arm help

KP, I've been working on a modified Granddaddy for a while and ended up making my own A-arm ends out of pipe and pouring polyurethane bushings. It is a project with the kids and trying too hard. Wished I would have used the 4-bar rod ends that can be found on multiple sites, one link below...

Full Suspension Big Block Mini-Buggy Build

Bonez, I follow the threads a lot, but post little. I am building a Granddaddy with my daughters and have diverged from plans a good bit to make it off road rated. From concern for strength and durability of the front end I used a kit similar to the link below (I think I found them a little...

    Grand Daddyish build

Your welds look really good. I like the idea of going the 670. Starting off you wouldn't have to mod it any and still have plenty of go. I haven't looked at the CVTs available for that hp range. Xpeedingrods is where I bought my knock-off comet 40. They have replacement CVTs for the...

    Grand Daddyish build

We hunt in far south west Texas, perfect area for running this around. My thought was to make a removable deck from 1" tubing with the floor being expanded mesh. Deck would be as wide as top of cage and about 6' long, probably need a couple of kickers down to front of frame. Use tractor pins...

    Grand Daddyish build

I've added a bit more triangulation to the cage for strength in case of roll over, but still roomy. For sure too big for back of truck, plan to trailer this around. Front shocks are the 340 mm motorcycle shocks from Amazon with the reservoir, will see how they perform. Looked at a few...

    Grand Daddyish build

What you did with back of your frame is a good idea, keeps the framing simple and gives you more flexibility going up. Third seat would be good, could be used as a good mobile hunting stand using some concealment blankets.

    Grand Daddyish build

Thanks, I wanted to give it more buggy feel than what the plans had. A arms were lengthened and spread some too due to the tire size. Stub axle is from a trailer kit, cut the shaft with a whole saw and welded to 1.25"OD x .625"ID DOM to make a spindle, a arm ends are 5/8" heims. Other end of...

    Grand Daddyish build

TNT, the build sounds awesome. I have been a lurker on this forum for a couple of years and this is my first post, and started a Granddaddy build about 1.5 years ago to work on with my daughters, now 10 and 13. I too stretched and widened the entire system and departed greatly on the roll...
