poor service from BMI parts

I have been buying parts for a kart I just bought. I don't have a lot of experience in the hobby but I'm learning the ins and outs as I go. Much of what I learn has come from research on this forum. This forum has proven invaluable for learning about all things kart related. It's the real people sharing what works and their own mistakes that makes the forum so vital for a newbie.

So with sharing experience in mind I just wanted to note that I was very disappointed with BMI parts this week. I wanted to relocate a "kill switch" from behind the seat to the steering stanchion. The old switch was mounted on 1" tubing and the stanchion is 3/4". This switch is one of the little on/off metal toggles you see often used. The little clamping arms for the 1" tubing won't tighten up on 3/4" tubing.

I noticed on the BMI parts site they listed the same switch I have but also show they stock this same switch for 3/4" tube. A different part number shown along side the 1" unit. I think it cost about $12 and shipping was around $10 (it ships in a little envelope). Seemed pretty high but I went for it because I have several other issues I'm dealing with on the kart and this would be an easy fix for this small matter.

So the switch came yesterday and they don't include any clamping arms at all (I checked and they don't even sell a clamp for it separately). On a side note the switch was no good right out of the envelope. The toggle arm doesn't flip back and forth just feels like it's filled with gravel inside.

Anyway it is a small matter but thought I would pass the experience along as I feel like BMI doesn't really care one way or the other. I may try to call them today and see if they will make it right but don't hold out much hope. They did not respond to an email.

I will update if anything positive happens.

Call them.

I have been buying from BMI for over 10 years and not a single issue. They always fix my problems if I have any. And usually it’s my fault ordering the wrong part.

I just recieved a order from BMI karts today. Is it normal for them to put religious pamphlets in their orders?

I have placed 10+ orders from them, and on the last one, there was a faux million dollar bill that warned me that I am going somewhere warm. Kinda rubbed me the wrong way, have not bought from since.

I also bought the same switch as the OP, and it did not flick , it was stuck , and did not include a band to mount it, went right in the trash with the bill.

Got the same thing in my order. I'm not necessarily complaining but I did find it unprofessional.

I got the same pamphlet with my worthless switch. I didn't think it felt appropriate either. If they would have included the proper size mounting clamp (for 3/4" or 7/8" tube) I could have just mounted the old switch and been good.

I ended up mounting the switch where I wanted, I just fab'ed a spacer. Hope it can hold up to the vibrations.

Still smacks of "wrong" that they show this switch as made for the smaller tube size right next to the switch for the 1" tube.

Bye the way I looked that order up and found I paid $4.95 for the switch and $14.00 for shipping. I know "here's yer sign" !!!!

I will try to call them now just to see if they even answer the phone.

if what they are saying is true then it is incredibly nice. I have ordered a couple thing from bmi and have found the all to be good products

No offence to Karts of Kaos but maybe you didn't notice several members have experienced this identical problem with the same part. I have received parts from BMI that were just fine but it's good to know what happened to members concerning this particular switch and the way they are misrepresenting it.

I just called them and no human would answer. I left a message with my contact phone, hope they will call.
