I have a go-kart I've been working on... project got stalled for a long time but I've posted about it before. I got it in rough shape for 150 and got it to run, but then it crashed, suffered carb issues, broke a fuel tank, stripped the driveshaft bolt threads, got scored cylinder walls, broke the recoil, and I got defeated and gave up. Then Christmas rolled around, and an influx of cash prompted me to pick up a Predator 212 to replace the old beat Briggs. One day maybe I'll fix the Briggs, but for now, it's not cost-effective. A new tank is 50 dollars!
Anyway, once I get that set up and put on a new chain, I'll still have to deal with the rear axle. Getting off the nuts to change the tires in the spring was insanely hard, and once I got it off the threads got destroyed. The nut was so seized that it was too hot to hold when it came off from the friction. I had to stomp the wrench with a breaker bar full force, almost destroyed the wrench! So to try and get around buying a new axle, since they're super overpriced for some reason, I bought a 2 piece lock collar and tightened it where the nut would go. It hasn't gone far yet since the kart is still disabled, but I want to know if that's remotely safe enough to ride around. It's probably not... but I dunno.
Also, I replaced the brake cable with one from BMI karts and as soon as I tightened the screw in on the clamp piece it frayed and destroyed the cable. I was ****ed, but I went into the shed and got some random metal twine rated at 175 pounds and hooked it up. It has no sheath but works to stop. I'm just afraid that I'm too heavy with the kart for the line, but I don't know how that works. Also, If I set the line up too tight and stomp on it, the line slips a bit until it isn't too tight anymore which scares me, but it's still tight enough after that happens to lock the wheels.
Anyone got advice? thanks! Hopefully one day I'll have enough knowledge to help others too, I'll try and look around on the forums and answer simple questions I know about.
