Hay guys. Been a while since I've been on it. How y'all been ? Have a new project going on I need some good ideas. Any of you guys ever hear of a screw drive off road vehicle? I'm going to build one but about the side of a golf kart. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RbDe5dEu07I My biggest problem is making the barrels with the screws. Any ideas on that part would be a big help....... I have everything else figured out. Thanks in advance.

I think a slip form roller is going to be a must have to make concentric screw barrels. I've watched some screw drive videos, and those seem to be unstoppable, looking forward to seeing this.

I have no idea what you mean by, slip form roller. lol anyway, I have some hydraulic pumps and actuators from a zero turn mower that will spin the screws. Engine plant will be a Kawasaki 18 horse V twin engine.

Ok. How about some of those discs from whatever they call that piece of farm equipment welded onto whatever you might have in mind for the shafts.

Or does thing have to be amphibious?

Yeah I was looking more for and amphibious vehicle. I've tried getting a hold of some propane tanks but can't seem to find the right size that I need. Plus I need 2 of the same. So I was looking at making some tanks.

I'm thinking 2 1/2 foot inner diameter Should be big enough around and about 8ft long. 55 gallon drums would be way too thin. I already thought of that LOL.

Well I'd go right to a 6" or 8" or even 12" steel water main pipe because they can be made to be water tight:rolleyes:, are very strong and have a huge selection of fittings to use on them.

you could probably fab up an inside blind flange, weld it in then you could bolt your bearings and drive system to the outside of the pipe.

yeah two 8' sections or so of that pipe plus all the other surrounding steel will get a bit heavy so you really need to do the math and figure out how much flotation you can get in the size you need and find the material to fit the project.

I was thinking about this today at work (work is boring sometimes) and wondered how difficult it would be to find or make large atv tires with a lug tread all in one direction and just have a row of them on each side.

It would ride real nice and float very easy.

Friggin' revisions. Lock the doors, keep the engineers out. Would be easier to make the body buoyant, let the screws...well, screw.

You mean like an Argo?

I was thinking of something a bit more radical sort of like argo but all the tires turned 90 degrees on each side and all on one shaft running down the side but there are no tires that would line up to make a screw configuration.
