Ok heres some pics of the front suspension and spindles.
You can see my welds are a lot better on flat steel rather than round steel!

I have also installed a grease nipple in each of the front wheels for easy lubrication.

I am going to get my local engineering shop to make me up some brass bushings or sleeves.
I need these sleeves to fit inside my kingpins which are approx 7/8"/ 22mm, to work with my 12mm kingpin bolts.
I will also add grease nipples in my kingpins!

I also have my steering boss and steering wheel, and all the bushings and lock collars. I may add a bearing to the end of my column.

On my minibike, I think I will cut into the backplate.

One question- I am using 20mm tube for my steering column. Will 1.5mm wall thickness be thick enough? Or will the hole for the steering wheel boss bolt "egg out"?

Finally, PUMPKIN!!! I am growing them to sell at halloween. I put them at the end of my driveway for a few £ each. I got over £100 last year!

It needs a little tidying up, a grease nipple and king pin bushings, but its getting there!

WOW! That looks great! Are those die springs?

Just a reminder, you're going to want to reinforce that spindle bracket, or just attach it in two locations.

Regarding the steering column: 1.5mm is too thin, in my opinion, if you are going to thread in bolts. A through bolt might make a strong enough connection, but I've had sorry luck using bolts in my steering column, which is also thin.

I have ordered the 1.5mm now, as it was all I could get. I am going to use through bolts.
Which bit do you mean to reinforce?
Edit: yeh they are die springs rated to 2kg or so per mm, or about 65kg total.

If you attach the piece that holds the spring, spindle, and bolt ("C" bracket?) to the frame in one location , you will need to gusset it or it might buckle inward. If you attach it in two locations, say the bottom and the top or middle and top, then you shouldn't have that problem.

Lookin' good, man! After all those upgrades are done, it'll be a whole new driving experience. I suspect that it will be much better suited to the terrain you're riding on, and I do think you're going to love it!

Thanks for the compliments :)
The steel for the steering column has arrived, along with a new pulley for my mini bike.
I plan on putting the rear suspension on in the christmas holidays, along with a new paint job. I know it sounds a bit random, but my mum has this chilie pepper plant that is dark purple, white and green, and I thought it looked awesome- new colour scheme? Opinions?

Also will my ratio of 9:54 or 1:6 with 40 series and 19" tyres with 4.5k rpm clone be ok?

DC, What do you mean by reverse hulk?
I was thinking dark purple frame and engine and white extras, eg. Wheels and shocks.

Redsox- would that be ok with my 19" wheels though? or am I not going to allow the engine to rev to 3600+ rpm?

Oh yea. ToyStory had a bullet proof kart weighting a few hundred pounds itself, with a 13HP Honda and a 40 series that had similar sized tires. The 40 series shouldn't even flinch.

Ok turns out the machine shop made me some nylon/ white plastic bushes, which look fine. Do they need lubrication? My dad said that nylon didn't need lubrication, like oilite. Is this correct?

Here is my mini bike pulley. I had to file a keyway myself, which turned out alright. It cannot turn.

Here is my steering column

I have made 2 little brackets for the front steering bush, and welded them on.

Here is what the steering column looks like installed. I still need the bracket closest to the seat.

Heres my old steering components. They look THRASHED!!!

And some more of my better welds

I need to:
Weld on the "C" brackets
Weld on the pitman arms, considering the ackerman theory.
Cut tie rods to lenght
Install second steering bush
Fix a small sprocket issue
Drive!!!
I have a mate that I am ment to be meeting up with sometime next week who has a buggy. I plan to spend the best part of a day karting with him :D :) :D Should be fun. I don't want any major problems for the whole day (It would be about the longest I have driven my kart for without it breaking if it survives!!!)

On my mini bike I need to:
Buy a new longer belt which is "cogged" so it will wrap around the pulley nicely
mount petrol tank
cut and reinforce my tav30 backplate for belt clearance
adjust brakes
RIDE!!!
