the number on the side of the engine read h50-65558S, and a few other letters/numbers. is that a 5hp model?? also to get the old motor to start i have to hold the throttle open. could my carb settings be off?? there isnt a choke plate on the carb. there are other linkage arms on the side of the case but they arent connected. please excuse the noob ignorance, i know very little about 4cycle small engines.

yes 5hp. that linkage on the side is the governor. for karting applications we just leave it disconnected.

you're probably running a bit to rich try screwing in the adjustment screw a 1/4 turn and try it.
