Can I use bicycle cables for brake and cable throttles. My local Bike shop can make 'em custom in length for my kart. Are they as good as the ones sold for karts?

for throttle no problem. for brakes it depends on the size of the kart. for a big one it would be better for a car-like setup

I have used them for both, throttle and brake, although the brake does end up at a motorbike handle on a hydraulic set-up.
With a kart that weighs 100kg and me on it (100kg) I can lock up the back wheel on gravel and dirt. Time will tell if I manage to snap it. Adrian

Yes. the cables are just sheathed cables with the certain type of ends on them. if you have the brakes/throttle, then you can see what types of ends they need, and make them as you want.

i just use old bonnet cables for my go kart and mini bike's THROTTLE but i wouldnt recomend them for the brakes. I used to use them for the brakes but they snap too easily, motorbike cables are the answer. they've lasted me for over a year. but for the throttle go the bonnet cables. you can just get them from the wreckers for cheap, might be cheaper than getting custom made stuff ??

bike cables work for throttle.i have also used copper pipe for outer liner, and bike inner cable with good results.for brake i have allways used 1/4 in rod.can't take chances with stopping.

one more thing. you can go to auto parts store and hardware stores and get 3/16 compression fittings to hold the ends of the cables.3/16 comp fittings have fine thread, 3/8 thread. these nuts are easy to come by.just take off one end, thread on a nut.use the fittings to hold the outer part of the tight, but don't overtighten!
