I found this great article on the 4 Cycle forum. The idea is that an ideal engine could be made to double the horsepower for no more than triple the cost. Strange I know, but the data is good.

Great Read. Very useful to you Clone Fans. 15.5 hp from a clone.....awesome.

So it begins, the first blueprinted clone.

WOW! Better than I would've guessed! Running a stock clone to 5500 rpm with no explosions, disfigurements, or bad karma! Cool!
What he found seems to agree with the ***-dyno... power seemed to tail off after 4500 rpm stock. So it looks to be a very cheap route to some decent power: Better muffler, remove governor, larger carb and air-filter.... keep it below 5000 rpm (since it doesn't want to breathe much above that without more mods) and you have a runner worth almost 9hp? VERY NICE. This guy didn't attempt the gx390 carb swap either that a lot of guys do. THANK YOU RussellATV for this post! Mods, I think we have "Sticky Material" here! (Eeeeeeyyyyyew!)

I SAID, I think this would be good Sticky Material since more of us will soon be staring at clones on our projects instead of Flattys.

Oscar I'd say around 15 hp. I'm told that there's no way that you can make more than that out of the stock port's and all that. But evidence prove's wrong. Apparently you can make alot of HP from these. I have a freind that want's to do some profesional port and polish to my clone head but I think I'd be going past my 15 hp wish.

Dang- either way, 9- 15hp is pretty good. Can you imagine a kart with twin modded clones?
Sorry about the annoying part.... I just thought that this is the closest to a real step-by-step on the clones. Honda had a pretty good design going in, and bless the Chinese companies for making them affordable. That's free market for you. Case in Point: Two New-Old-Stock carbs (20mm Keihins) for my wife's motorcycle on Ebay $400! Yes, you heard me... for little measley carbs for a bike that can barely do 75mph, $400. But- a Chinese company can make a cheap facsimile for $35. Maybe the quality won't be as good, but I highly doubt the real carbs will mix fuel/air 5.7 times better, or last 5.7 times longer, or work 5.7 times better for most of the world's use of a motorcycle. Guess who's getting our money? Now if I could just find out a way to get a hold of a few of those cloned Torq-a-Verters......

Good info and post!!!
That seems about right with the RPMs. 7HP+ completely stock is very impressive. Over 8HP with better intake and exhaust, WOW! A stock engine, it seems like power starts to fall back slowly after 4500, but falls off sharply after 5200. In that case, it's fine to stay at 4500 and run the engine to 5200 RPM peaks! 5400RPM Seemed to be the falloff after the intake+jets, not bad!!! Have good flow, and these babies can rev!!! It's so easy to get power out these engines, I love them, and will continue to use Honda or Clones, they are impressive, and I've used B&S engines for years, and they can't beat the first pull starting and the torque of the Honda's.
