About 2 years ago I purchased a yard kart kit.
I looked for least expensive one I could find. When all was said and done, final price was about $540 w/o engine. If you can find a complete running "race kart" for $500, be very suspicious and wary. A KT100 alone sells for several hundred in used condition. External starter for this runs around $200 to $300.

I dont plan on racing it stock either, I just want something that I can drive around and have fun with and then gradually upgrade/improve it. I just cant afford to buy a full blown racing kart all at once. I just gotta work my way there little by little.

I just purchased one of these. Everything included except clutch and power plant.
Twin 2 cycles is what I plan on using to power it. Some mods to frame will have to be made but is otherwise just what the doctor ordered. http://gokartsusa.com/azusa3557gokart.aspx Let me know if link does not work.
