Default Go-Kart Alley the book

Well, Iíve finally come out of the book closet and just self-published the dern thing!

Go-Kart Alley is a book written by me and based on karting ideas, dreams and experiences from my youth. I first decided these could be a book in 1994, actually wrote it in 2001 and have been tweaking it ever since. (Write, Read, Re-write, Repeat) What youíll see is not perfect but itís time to get it moving. I start filming a trailer for a TV Series based on the book in April. This is spam from an established member of the forum to get you all to buy a copy, help promote and help fund the trailer.

Go-Kart Alley is the 1980s story of two small town brothers who get the idea to start a custom go-kart shop in their backyard shed after the nearby railroad shuts down. But their summer plan for adventure, cruising karts to faraway places along the abandoned corridor, is compromised when ďyuppiesĒ from the city claim it as Rails-to-Trails. But they and their friends overcome through their special home grown know-how, know-who and know-where to have the most totally awesome summer ever! (I know, like gag me with a spoon, but after all, it is set in the 80s;-)

So buy your copy today! Youíll love it guaranteed because 2 out of 4 moderators canít be wrong! Also great for kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbors, coworkers and friends! All proceeds benefit the making of the trailer and TV series there on. Thank you!

Hi Dennis careful with the cover;
AFAIK there's still a copyright on the picture.

Good luck with the book
and the best of luck with the TV Trailer

Sid, am I remembering correctly that was a Fox Kart ad that Monogram used a version of for the Kart model kit?

The ad was an actual photo, the model had that "redrawn" box most likely because of a copyright on the photo

I read Go Kart Alley, as did my kids. My kids liked it a lot, and frankly, so did I. It kinda made me feel like a kid again, I got lost in the text. As a kids' book, it might be a little campy, but I genuinely enjoyed it.

C'mon fellas! Support a forum good-guy and help him build his dreams!

So Y'all moderators were part of the proof read team? If you think it's good, I add it to the list. To bad I'm broke, and unemployed; the fact that the last employer talked me into working as a 1099 contractor (which means I'm ineligible for unemployment) just adds insult to injury.....

I have to agree with Doc. I also read the book and really enjoyed it. It was so good that I even read some of it on company time (but don't tell anyone).

So go and buy one!!!!

Thank you Sid for letting EVERYONE know that...LOL I'm looking into it.

No worries M@L spread the word if you can. I hope you find something. A lot of people at my machine shop made the migration from Michigan.

I've sold 3 books so far...we're on our way

Seriously, thank you to Sid for pointing that out. I thought that old art was public domain after 50 years especially with the company being long gone. Thank you for helping me find out that it has only recently become very active again.

Alright, now that my panic is over and everything is fixed [I hope...if not please PM me]

Buy a copy Go-Kart Alley with new, limited edition cover art today!

Woo-hoo! I've sold 4 books! Working on getting permission to use the old artwork. Doesn't appear to be copyrighted but I'll still do it right.

Trailer update: First draft is written along with shot list! But, I've decided to write 4 mini-sode teasers(think of those 30 second intros to the Rockford Files) to film simultaneously with the trailer.

It will be a PDF, so you you can read it on your kindle. You could also just use an online converter to make it a epub format

I'm working on an ebook version. Actually made one draft but I don't have a reader to proof it to be sure the chapter breaks came out right. I'm kind of old fashioned...I like to unplug when I read.

Thank you!!!!! Iím told chapter 2 or 3 gets a little heavy with technical details but the action picks up from there

No problem. Buying one was a no brainer... my boys and I build stuff, we share with other kids in the neighborhood, we do little races, and the book fair is going on at my son's elementary school. Everything just fits

I enjoyed the tech details. Gave it more "dimension" than your average kid story. I think my two (especially the older one) really dug that stuff too.

Alright, so I'm super excited! I got a call from Bill Campbell today. After some super sleuthing I found out he's the original artist for the Hawk Models Fox Go-Boy Cart box art. I also found out what an extensive career he had and just how influential he has been at inspiring thousands of automotive and aviation professionals and fanatics with his art.

When I determined the cover I desired was not copyrighted I also found Bill's address so, I wrote him a letter asking for permission to use it. Not only was he more than happy to give me permission he also gave me an awesome first hand account of his career as an artist.

His written permission letter is already in the mail and so to celebrate, I've put the cover to Go-Kart Alley back to the Bill Campbell box art version.

I'm posting the link again along with the new/old cover art. As you're stuffing stockings and dropping Christmas list hints, please, don't forget about Go-Kart Alley

PS. Thanks Sid! If it hadn't been for you I'd have never found out about Mr. Campbell or gotten to talk to him

That's great!
So the next issue might have wonderful illustrations of a great artist.
